Wested TND Jacket

Post by Zach R. »

I know this is off-topic, but I can't think of anywhere else to ask it. Has anyone ever purchased one of Wested's James Bond jackets?

Yes, TheMantis did.

I think he decided to sell it as he thought it was a little small and then he planned to get another one. IIRC.

I thought that it was a great looking jacket in the movie and I have often thought that I should get one.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if they would make it in different leathers?

I'll keep the sizing in mind, but I dunno how it'd look on a guy with some reverse taper like me.

Reverse taper ...
That's pretty good ... I guess another way to put it would be ... an overly thick ribbon.

I bought it last year, and it is the best jacket I have ever owned. My jacket is a lot darker than the pictures I have seen of it though, it is completely black, and I haven't been able to reproduce that light brown finish that is supposed to appear when you take a photo of it using a flash. Anyway, it is a great jacket, and I can highly recommend it.

You ordered the brown and it looked black? :-k

Anyway, I requested some more pics and some leather samples(along with some samples for my next Indy jacket) from Wested, I'm interested in what exactly this "nubuck leather" really is.

That is a good looking jacket. It appears to be very similar in style to the Motoring Coat offered by History Preservation Associates (or whatever they're called). Their item is made from a smooth leather, which makes me wonder what the Wested product would look like in brown goatskin.

I've also sent an email to Gemma. we'll see what she says.

Cheers!

I believe the screen accurate version is made with cowhide, whereas the Wested public version is made with a waxy hide

In the other thread, Peter I think, said that the more you wear it the more "shiny"(eg screen accurate) this nubuck becomes? :-k

I think nubuck leather has a bit of a "nap" to it like pigskin. The more you wear it the "slicker" it will get as the "nap" wears away.

No, they told me that the original one is supposed to be black, it just look brown in the light. Mine, however, look black no matter what the light is. To be honest, I don't think my jacket look anything like the one in the movie when it comes to the colour, but I still think it looks great.

The information of the jacket being cowhide comes from David(Mantis). And trust me, he knows his Bond.
