Some bashing pics

I turn the hat first to get the brim shape I want. Once I hve that set, I marked the crown where I wanted to pinch it

After setting a nice high pinch, I make big, deep front bashes before I put in the center dent. This gives me more material to work with.

I push pretty hard on those front bashes once it dries. I'm not affraid to stretch it a little. Other than that, it's pretty much a pinch, push, or pull here and there. I do use the clothes pins on the front pinch.

You appear to be doing it the way I do it. Are you using steam? I just mist from a spray bottle.

I am constantly amazed that turning a hat can produce a brim like that! I have considered trying to turn my Akubra but think it has had its current shape too long...

The brim in the first pic is AMAZING. How'd you get it like that? Maybe you tried some of the "Raiders Swoop" stuff?

Pagey, I would be very interested in seeing a tutorial with your tricks for bashing a hat.

That brim happens when you turn the hat. As you turn it from center, it begins to distort.

Its kinda funny how I do my bashing the opposite that you do yours, but we end up with the same result. I start with the top dent, then I work in the front pinch and side dents.

Strider, my hat aquired the Raiders swoop when i turned mine also. The only thing I did with my brim was to roll it out totally flat. once I determined how much I wanted to turn my had I simply snapped the brim down in the front and added a little curl to the sides.

P.S. Pagey, go ahead and type up a tutorial. I think its interesting to the variation in how people bash their hats.

I'd like to campaign one more time for a tutorial from Pagey. I think his hat was probably my biggest influence(well, there is Indy's hat. It was pretty important too) I would love to learn as many techniques as possible, from everyone who bashes their own hat. Then we can mix and match techniques and become even better. Bashing is my favorite part of this hat game. I'm getting bored and need another hat to bash already. Time to drop another AB hint on my wife.

Doug, the Akubra comes with the dimensional cut. As far as I know the AB is the only hat that you can order turned. However, IMO it is best to bash the hat yourself if you want it turned. That way you can decide how much turn is needed.
