Cool costume. We are making something similar for the Von Beck character in our fan film. All you need is a Nazi arm band. Are there any tutorials on how to make them?
I think he is by looking at his title but for him he probably already had this suit in his closet and it's probably real vintage. I could be wrong of course, but Matt's lifestyle is vintage.
Great suit and excellent hat. Personally, I am not crazy about how that hat band looks in the photo (It looks "orange-y" for lack of a better word). I realize it may look much better in person.
The suit is great. I was tryinig to discern what it is. It looks too dark for your J. Peterman linen suit. I was thinking it might be poplin? It definitely captures the look you are going for.

It is a J. Peterman Linen Cotton blend suit, still a bit tight.
The ribbon on the fedora is orange. I love this fedora, its a vintage hat so no tapering.

Matt,
That is a great looking hat, especially the sweep of the brim. It's very rakish.
I see what you mean about it being a bit tight where it buttons, but it actually looks good that way. It makes it look lived in. I have moved the button on suits (well, actually my tailor has) and sometimes that buys enough room to put off a total tailoring of the jacket.
I didn't realize the Peterman was that light in color. The catalogue made it look darker. It is a great suit and you wear it well
Enjoy it.
One last question, on that vintage hat, is that the original ribbon?
Thanks,
-HJ
NEAT duds, my friend! I like that hat, too. I'd say if you popped one of Steve's grey Indy's on your head, you'd be good to go as a Cairo henchman. With the hat you have in the picture, I'd say you have more of a Bogart look going on. How old is the hat/suit, and what brand of hat?
The hat is a vintage Emerson that I have had for a few years. It's been cleaned and given a new leather sweatband by Optimo in Chicago. The orange ribbon and the binding on the edge are original. The hat I believe is early 1940's.
Geoff,
Are you going to go make me change my avatar that I've had here for years now? We've been posting in the same threads way too much and when I see your avatar, well, my avatar being used by another member, it's like two guys showing up for work and wearing the exact same suit/tie/shoes or something.
Not at all! I love that photo. It has a great "timeless" quality to it. It could have been taken last year in England or seventy years ago in Chicago. Very nice!
