One week. Here is how I do the pinch. I think it helped get rid of the first one. I first start the pinch with my fingers with cold water.
I then put this piece of wood inside to keep the pinch from being too tight.

I then take a piece of cloth(in this case a piece of t-shirt)and fold it so that it is fairly thick. I then put it over the pinch and then put clothes pins over that. Don't make the cloth so thick that the clothes pins won't fit over. This is done over a damp pinch, then it sat over night.

I do the same thing for the top point(arrow head).

I would think that every felt hat is going to eventually taper, based on conditions and care. The good thing with the AB is that Fedora has the block and can re-block them. I've even read where he has re-blocked other brands (Akubra) on his block. According to him, this is more difficult bacause the hat wasn't made on his block, therefore, there is less material to work with. Steve, correct me if I'm wrong.

Did My AB Taper?

I was in heavy rain for two hours. I also had something under the sweatband to make the hat wear higher on my head. If I put something under the sweatband and still wore it lower on my head, it would make the hat look tapered. If I had something under the sweatband in heavy rain for two hours, and still wore the hat lower of my head, the hat would taper and I think this is what happened. Does all of this makes sense?erri_wan wrote:How did it taper? Heavy rain or something?

On topic, here is my newly turned and rebashed Federation. Without my mug in it.

Terms
Prairie / COW:
Can you guys post some explanations for me?
Thanks - really appreciate it ...
Q1: Can you briefly explain the term "turn"?
Q2: Why do you re-crease the pinch? (Did it start to disappear or were you just trying to achieve a modified [screen] look)?
Q3: How do you achieve the 'camel hump' effect? (*Does this increase the chance of pre-mature taper?)
Q4: Do any of these modifications, involve adjusting the top of the hat (the "ditch" <insert correct term> in the top of the crown)?
From what I gather, "taper" refers to the hat (from the front/back perspective) decreasing in diameter at the top of the crown (right?).
... like an upside-down snowcone, but not as dramatic an angle ... :
I've only had my AB for a couple of months now - and have only been adjusting the brim so far (attempting to get more <fill in correct term> downward tilt in the front ... Strider broke the code for me on how to do this when I met up with him at Comic-Con - (in addition, he showed me how to adjust the left & right sides) ...
I looked at a lot of posts, that talk around these subjects ... but most don't go into much detail ...
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP GUYS !

A1: http://raidershat.com/ This will explain the turn.
A2: If your hat is unturned and you decide to turn it you have to adjust all the bashes. (dents) See A1.
A3: This one is hard to explain. To achieve the camel humps, the top of the frot pinch must be lower than the top of the crown. This requires that the top dent (ditch,as you call it ) be deeper. If you deepen the top dent too much it will cause the hat to taper. However, it is nothing serious, because you can just push the top dent back up.
A4: See above.
A5: You have the right idea, but it also refers to the hat from the side. a good example is to compare the plane hat in ToD and any of the hats in Raiders.
I hope I helped to answer your questions.

Hat
Thanks a lot, J_Weaver.
Looking at the website ... I think my hat was already turned by Fedora.
(since it is off-center already ...).
Based on your description, I believe I'll hold off on the camels until I meet up with some more COW members in person for a quick tutorial.
Thanks again !

P.S.> Sorry for stealing attention away from your hat, PrairieJones.prairiejones wrote:My Federation, turned and rebashed. Thanks J_Weaver, for pushing me.
BTW, not that I'm an expert (... all evidence to the contrary ... ), but - your hat looks great, Dude.
