I have an old Stetson "Indy" from around 1984 that has faded pretty badly. The ribbon was almost pink and I ordered a new one from Fedora. My problem is the correct color vintage ribbon now is too much of a contrast to the faded color of the hat.
My question for you experts is: Can I dye my old Indy fedora back to a more authentic color? Even though its a little tapered and not real authentic it has some value as it was my first (and only, for over 20years) item of Indy gear.
I would Love to hear if and how I could redye my old Stetson to make it an "almost Indy" hat again. I could post pics this weekend if that would help.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Dyeing a hat is a hard thing to do. What happens is you get decent job, but the dye only penetrates the top surface. So, if you trim the brim, you have a sandwich. The outer layer being the new color, the core being the old color.
If you do try and do it, you can get better coverage if you dye the hat in a boiling dye mizture, pull it out, cool, boil again, pull out, and repeat this many times. The cooling cycle helps the dye to penetrate. Fedora
