Bantu Wind hat has THE LINE.................................
That makes 4 shooting locations where the line is visible. I've added it to the other pictures, here=http://www.raidershat.com/pagethree.html
3thoubucks, I´ve followed Your discoveries over the years, but resently
one things is puzzeling me.
Now that the DVD´s are out You still do You documentary with
blurry VHS-stills.
I think many of the members inhere, at least I would, get a clearer
picture of what You mean if You started using screencaps from the DVD!
Best regards
JAN

Please, someone please post the exact same pics as our buddy 3M$. Then we can see what he is referring to. It may be that on the better dvd quality pics, the lines he speaks of will disapear. I went through my dvd when this first came up, and for the life of me, I cannot see what he is talking about!! FedoraNow that the DVD´s are out You still do You documentary with

That's a good idea Fedora. My computer is only 2 years old, and captures DVD stills, but the quality is so low, I end up taking pictures off my TV with a digital camera. If someone wants to help here, just remember the traces are dim. They might not even be there in the frame just previous or just after the ones I've shown.

Here's the "So?" , VP. An open crown telescope can look a lot different than a standard open crown. You could get a deep top dent with this, without having tall sides. ... If the Raiders hat was a telescope, the felt may or may not have been as distorted as this hat, and an Adventurebuilt might be virtually identical, without a line. But the line IS a fearue of the Raiders hat, and a hat that has is it closer to the original. Plus, since the search for the original HJ block in HJ's warehouse is NOW going on, it would help to know if it was a plain block or telescope block.

I was watching Raiders yesterday, frame by framing the scene in the Well of Souls, when Marion is on his shoulders and the hat goes nearly 100% open crown. If it was a telescope crown, I don't think it has much, if any, distortion, unlike like the Jackson Iconoclast I pictured above. I think it could have had some, though. ...It may be the case today, but I doubt HJ didn't sell hats with block formed bashes in 1980. I think this is from the shop down the street, around the corner ten years later in 91. I'd argue that definitely the pork pie, and I'd wager the two darkest brown hats have block formed bashes- the edges of the bashes are just too sharp on those two not to be block formed. I don't think crumpleing , or sitting on a hat, as described by Nadoolman could give you what is clearly an even circle around the top of the crown, and NO OTHER disturbingly obvious creases.. The Adventurebuilt may be all you need, but, I think it's worth determining if the hat was a telescope. .........Any one else care to post some clearer pics of the...L-I-N-E ???? THANK YOU! .

I just distressed one of my hats, to get the stiffener to soften up and give the hat a well worn look. I now have those lines on mine. I think they appeared after I did the "Dan stomp". Depending upon the felt, a line of this nature can appear when you crush the top of the hat down into the crown. You get the same mark when you iron the break into the brim. A lighter area of discoloration. Theoretically, those lines you see could be from the distressing. The fact that none can be seen on the new hat, worn into the entrance of the temple, filmed in Hawai lends credence to the idea of the lines being from distressing. That would make more sense than someone grabbing a porkpie(when they knew they were after a non porkpie hat). Fedora

I think my hat proves it wasn't a porkpie hat. That line on my hat wasn't there when I first got my hat from Fedora. That line came to be after handle, grabbing , and sitting on it.

If I recall correctly, Nadoolman said in her distressing process she sat on the hat and had Harrison sit on it too. Perhaps that is where those lines are coming from?binkmeisterRick wrote:That's similar to the line I get from just sitting on my hat. Sure, making it a porkpie will produce that line; I don't doubt it. But I think it was more likely a product of the distressing process.

It is Occam's Razor. Why choose a pork pie styled hat when you are seeking a 1930-40's era wide brimmed "everyman's" look hat? We were told that H.J. stocked open crowned hats. Harrison went for fittings. Why gasp at straws?
I think Fedora has that "Midas touch" in creating the Indy look. What more is necessary?
