Accurate in size?
What does that mean? The pin won't leave a hole in the ribbon.
Yes, get the fur felt one.
The pin is like a regular pin. You can take it off or put it back on as much as you like, and the ribbin/hat won't be damaged. The size it pretty accurate. It's the pinch and tear-drop crown that make it really off. There is no liner either, which on hot days may be a bother.

Ok. going back to Luke's original question and looking for a
cheap hat in the
UK . Would this be such a bad choice?

I'm talking about the "Havana Brown Trilby". If he can steam out the teardrop.
And for the uninitiated what is the difference between a Trilby and a Fedora?

I think that could be made to work fine - there is enough room for manoeuver. Rebash, trim the brim, etc. A bit of work for a first hat but certainly do-able.

That sounds like a good idea, thanks for the suggestion!

Well I talked to the:

people they say they can't supply open crown which is fair enough considering the fair trade source.
They did say it was Alpaca felt.... is that good or bad?

Well Alpaca is like a llama which I guess is like a sheep so I guess it means its like wool, although alpaca wool is very very good wool.

Come on guys, someone here must know? Strider?
I know that beaver felt is the considered best but can someone tell me where Alpaca falls in the spectrum. Just above regular wool perhaps?
