Bullwhip Question

Hi All,

Ive had a 8 ft David morgan Bullwhip for about a year now and it's wearing in nicely. Ive just got back from the local park throwing it around and wondered how to keep it in good condition? other than pecards every few months..what do you do after it's been out?

Get some saddle soap and a wet cloth. Brush the whip off, then wipe it down with the wet cloth, to get any remaing dirt of. After that dry it off, then rub in a light coat of saddle soap. That works well for cleaning the whip, and getting any sand exe, out of the plaits of the whip. Most grocery stores carry saddle soap in the same row as the laundry detergent . It shouldent be that hard to find if you dont have some allredy.

Just to add, after you have cleaned it with saddle soap, put another coat of Pecards on. Also, after each cracking session you'll want ot Pecard the hitch area and the fall.

I have also noticed a small build up of dirt particularly after pecarding the whip on the joins of the braids, is this going tho cause harm? as it is difficult to remove from the whole whip.

If theres build up in the plaits,
you can use a cheap toothbrush to get
the dirt out with. Just make sure to wipe
the whip off after, to dry up any water.

It's definitely not good for the leather as it can be abrasive to the leather. It'd be like if you had beach sand in your pants/undies/swimsuit and it wouldn't come out...it'd eventually cause your skin to feel chaffed a bit...not good for you, not good for your whip.
