Looks like they modified Swale's original letter that he used to put in the box with the hat during the last few years he was there.

I must say, that hat looks like @#$%! :? They should think about putting a pic of a better representation of the "Indy Hat".

have a nice day.

I work near the HJ shop, went there a few weeks ago and yeah I wasn't very impressed with the hat to be frank. I've ordered an AB though so no worries there

Yes. She bought it from http://www.indyfedora.com. It cost 97 pounds, while the one mentioned in this thread is 165 pounds.

Aren't they the same hat? It's always H-J. Different models?

Pagey wrote:Erri, you need to dig through the old posts. This was a big topic this time last year. I'd ordered a HJ from Replix in Germany and I actually helped them set up Indyfedora. The pics of the shaped hat on that site were pictures I sent them of my hat. They weren't shaping them very well so I sent them some tips!
Ow i see... so they make a workshaping based on your pics! You helped a lot HJpeople havent you? :D

Thanks for the info

Pagey wrote:Yes, the HJs are sold - as is the Morgan in that picture. SO many items of gear come and gone...

As for comparisons - I find that a very hard task. For one, the HJ is rabbit and my AB is beaver. Shapewise they were pretty similar. The Ab has a slightly wider brim at the sides. I prefer the colour of the HJ felt, ut I prefer the sweatband on the AB. The list goes on.. I may well be buying another HJ, in which case I'll give the usual full report.
Thank you... and can i ask why you were so MAD to sell HJs???

I actually have sent numerous e mails to get info on old felt suppliers but they were understandably having none of it. Saying that, they insisted the same felt is used in their present fedoras and there present fedora is an exact copy of the Raiders! and being myself i bought none of it.

Not saying they arnt decent enough fedoras just not very good for the money you pay for them....£165.00 is robery for a hat like that when you could get a beaver AB.

What you see pricewise is the markup by the shop. It's cheaper to buy an HJ outside London. (Germany or California).

And the "Cambridge" HJ's are made on a better block... or at least so it seems. The HJ's on the shelves at Swaine were all tapered to Kingdom come.

The one the thread is about...the HJ on the Swaine Adeney website.. The (our) left side of the crown is kinda curving to the right so that it makes the hat look like it's swaying to the right, even the bash seems to lean to our right.

I thought you were seeing the same thing as me, but wanted to check. This is weird. When I received my HJ, it has this same shrunk up area. And, another of us here got the same sort of hat too. I had to reblok mine to wear it as I could not get it to look right with the one side shrunk in. I thought mine was just an anomaly, and something was going on with the felt. Once I reblocked mine, and lost a bit of crown height due to my blocks being straighter, the problem was solved. And, it has not come back so............. Like I said, this is weird, and a mystery to me. Wish I knew why this happened. Jersey passed on some info from HJ that he gleaned last year. Jersey told me, that he was told by his contact at HJ, that these hats were blocked without steam. I guess just a good mechanical stretch. That would explain it of course. Fedora

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. That is weird that several hats came from them like this...even more reason to not buy one from their shop. It amazes me they'd put such a poor example on their website, but maybe that was the cream of the crop.
