Yurik's Aldens

Post by MK »

MK:

I was hoping you could post some pics I took at the Alden shop on Madison Ave. in NYC. The salesman flipped out when he saw my boots. He said that Ford comes in often, as well as Bruce Willis among others. However, he also commented that Harry was a real "pr*ck". Anyway, here are pics of my boots next to his display boot. This was taken this past Monday. However, since then I treated them with a leather clean that darkened them slightly and even removed some of the highlights. Currently, they are right about where they need to be on color and wear. You can post this paragraph if you'd like.

THANX

...hmm, I wonder what would make him "a real pr*ck" just picking out a pair of shoes. :o

That store display pair looks to be a much narrower boot.

Did the salesman flip out because of the battle-damage look on your Aldens?

Yes, my Aldens looked exactly like the store model when I purchased them. The current look on them is the result of many risky treatements and restorations. Generally, what I did was dyed the shoes a dark brown, then acetoned them. I also did a few things to tone down the orange color of the leather under the surface. Again, I've recently done my last enhancement to them and will post pics with the entire outfit very soon. ITG: Yes, the salesman was flipping out in response to the condition of the boots. He said, "We have polish for that, you know."

Hey be nice! I was visiting New York, and ran out of dark socks by the time we made it to Alden. Regardless, I had jeans on that covered the socks unless I actually pulled the leg up. Anyway, I'm off to the store now to get some good quality black socks for my Halloween Indygear, and thick cotton socks for my wife's classic Tomb Raider outfit.

Take care all
