New Whip

Post by Spooky »

Luisiana J:

Nice whip !
What plait is it?
I've had my first whip for a month or so.
Nicked myself a couple of times - but it's a really cool hobby.

Have fun,

Whipcrack,

I make the IOAB bullwhips with a solid leather core and I also carry the taper all the way to the point, both of which help the whip to crack easily without tiring the arm. They do about everything a Morgan will do, or at least everything that I can get my Morgan to do.

Spooky,

The whip is 4-plait. The main reason for the low number of strands is to keep the price of the whip economical and affordable for a beginner, and not because I only know how to braid 4 strands  . I included a pic of a whip with a ring that I made in the post of your new whip from Bernie, just in case you didn't see it but would like to see what else I can do.

Thanks for the response. :)
I totally agree - I have been checking out your site since you posted on my (1st whip) thread ... you make some beautiful whips. I was just curious regarding the plait used on Luisiana's whip.

BTW: Bernie uses Jay-El to treat his whips (I have been using light doses of Pecards every now & then ... especially on the fall & being sure to wipe away any excess, etc.) ... do you have any brand suggestions :?:

wow,

Really nicely done.

That must have been a top quality hide.
As a fellow cowhide whipmaker, Ive experienced how difficult it is to get that look  . Deffinatly pulled it off, very well done!
Pagey, you are very lucky to be getting that one!
Regards!

Your whip looks realy good for a 8 plait cowhide.
Pagey, I'm sorry that I had no chance cracking your whip last sunday, but I'm looking forward to it, it really looks and feels good!
How did the pictures came out?

Indiana Tone,

Pagey's whip is basically my standard 12-plait Indy-style cowhide bullwhip but with a dark ring knot on the handle. But since I have a pic of Pagey's whip, it would be easy enough just to reference the pic if you want to order one like his.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the kind words, Swindy, I try

My next goal is to get some of Bernardo's veg-tanned cowhide to see if I can make a cowhide version of the Morgan that I got recently. I know that Bernardo's made a few whips that are a lot like his Morgans, but I'd like to try to make one with a 6-plait point.

PS: Anyone ever hear about slang flash cards? I just got some and I've been learning all sorts of cool phrases such as 'Gimme dat kick down so I can get down' or "To' up from the flo' up." I also learned a new slang word for dollars: ducksters. For example 'To turn my riz into a whip I had to spend some mad ducksters' translation: I had to spend a lot of money to fully accessorize my car. The above sort of relates to the forum in that 'whip' has become a word to mean an entirely 'tweaked out' car. I thought all of the other slang words were really funny, but I just can't seam to get that second meaning for 'whip' in my head.

Hmmm, so would a "cracked whip" be a wrecked but tweaked up car? I'm so behind on the new slang...I need to get some of these cards so my students will think I'm too cool to groove in the classroom.

 That's some crazy usage there, ITG.

Actually, I think what's funny is that on the box it says something like "Are you over thirty? Kind of nerdy or just plain uncool? Well just with these few cards you will become hip within days!" Oddly enough, however, I feel like I'm becoming a bigger dork every time I look through them.

Anyway, if you need the flo' just holla at your boy and I'll hook you up with the ish. (Translation: Send me a PM and I can give you the website.)

Peace up, A-town down

Hmm, well, uh, yeah...I don't think those cards are an entirely accurate representation of current slang, please don't go up to a teenager and say any of those phrases...   :P
