Where are all the Indy Greys???
Hey Folks : I know they're out there amongst the forum members but I have yet to see an actual Sea Plane Indy lid on anybody's head. I'm quite keen to go after one for my work wardrobe and am interested in what folk think is the best out there in terms of quality, price and vendors.
So...who's gottem??? eh..
Warm Regards

That's Fantastic!!
That's Fantastic MJ!!! I thought I remembered you in a grey somewhere on the forum but couldn't quite remember who or where? That is a really nice PBBM I was wondering whether they are hare, blends or full beaver and still $280 plus?
I've just recently seen Fedora's Grey (Very nice) but I was also curious whether Lee Keppler has ever offered a grey?
MJ...can you where your's in summer weather?
Again..Very nice.
Warm Regards

Re: That's Fantastic!!
Keppler has offered grey, not sure what he has in stock currently. The Grey PBBM is a Borsalino, so I'm pretty sure it's beaver (but don't quote me 100% on that). As for summer, yeah, I do wear it in the summer. But alas, in the heat, all fur felt fedoras get hot in my opinion. And I really don't want Indyesque sweat stains on this one... My Optimo Montecristi is a great summer hat (similar to Belloq's) - being straw, it breaths a whole lot better than fur felt.Kilgour Trout wrote:That's Fantastic MJ!!! Also, not to pop your bubble about your gray PBBM borsalino, but it's rabbit not beaver and make sure you don't get it very wet or you will be very dissapointed with the results. The only beaver borsalinos are the ones that say "100% beaver" on the sweatbands and they cost $400. and aren't anywhere near the quality of the Winchester 100% beaver felt that Steve uses on his Adventurebilt. I've seen them in person and trust me they are not worth the money. Just the facts, nothing personal.

About the grey hat in indiana jones, well i think it's really grey just because he's wearing a nice suit which doesnt match with brown
Anyway guys it could have been (in the movie) the same hat but with afternoon sun light; in that particular situation brown hats could seem to be grey
Have a look to these pics... it's the same stetson brown hat with different lights
the colour didnt change actually but the light yes
I hope my message is at least interesting lol

The hat in the plane WAS grey. Period! Richard Swales has claimed several times, that he made one or two grey hats for the movie as well and though he changed his opinion on pretty much everything regarding the specs. from time to time, he kept telling that he INDEAD made grey hat(s).
Now the discussion starts, if that wasn't the hat worn by the Nazi and if i couldn't have been a brown hat, that faded...
Regards,
Marc

Well i'm convinced too that it's a grey hat but do you think a man would bring with himself in a travel to Nepal, not one but two hats?Marc wrote:The hat in the plane WAS grey. Period! Speaking about the plot i think that it's Indy usual brown hat under a different light.
Speaking of behind the scenes it's another hat with a different colour (grey)
.
Tha's my opinion, i hope i was clear in explaining it

As to the Camptown gray hat, I NEED at least 10 people to commit to it. I really want to do it, though. I need to move some more of my brown first too Slow but sure.IndianaJones wrote:Don't forget that Jersey Jones is trying to recruit people to get gray versions of his hat too. Guys and gals, let me know about the need for beaver blend gray hats so I can get this up and rolling !

Well good counter argument you're right.Pagey wrote:Apart from anything else, when Indy refuses the drinka nd begins to sit down, you can quite clearly see that guy with the brown hat at the back of the plane - and his hat doesn't look grey. You can see both hats in the same shot and they are not the same colour. Ironically, it seems they gave the Nazi spy the brown Cairo hat (it certainly looks that way to me)whilst indy is wearing the Nazi's grey cairo hat.
I was just hypothesing anyway

The hat was gray. Sorry, but you don't wear a brown hat with a navy blue suit, much less a dirty beat up brown hat. (I now someone will post a pic saying, well I do ) You can clearly see the remains of a tight front pinch on the gray hat that the big Nazi is wearing in Cairo.
EDIT: We're posting at the same time erri!

I've actually been meaning to make a post about this subject, so I'll do it here. I am not so sure that these hats are "grey". I have these screen grabs, and the closer I look at it , the more it looks like a really light 'heather brown' or 'taupe' or something. It has a 'frosty' appearance to it that might make it seem grey to the eye in some light. But I think it is a different brown than his regular Raiders brown. Look at these pics and see what you think. Also note how narrow the brim is in front (over his eyes)

I don't have any pics of the plane scene, but the hat Indy is wearing at the end of the movie is gray. Gray Hat
Personally, I think its the same hat he had in in the plane and its the same hat the Nazi was wearing in Cairo. It all just fit together IMO. Light will also effect different materials in different ways. So the lighting in the plane could make his gray hat look different than the gray interior.

Sorry, it still does not look grey! Don't get me wrong, I agree a grey would probably look better with a blue suit than his regular brown, but obviously, that "heather brown" or whatever it is looks good too. And even if it is the Nazis Cairo hat, THAT hat is not grey either! Both Nazis are wearing tan/khaki colored suits! Why would they have on a grey hat? They both have on that same "heather brown" color.
Until there is some rock solid, indisputable ,evidence that Indy's hat is grey, I'm going by what my eyes see- and that is a brownish, frosty something brown. Even the ribbon is clearly brown.
have a nice day.

I watched that portion of Raiders last night, in slo-mo, on a new tv with a nice
bright screen. It is definitely gray/grey! Maybe not a gray like we are currently
seeing with the Akubras. And I haven't seen any of Steve's gray
AB's, so I can't compare that. It does look like it has a frosty look or is
a gray with a slight tint to it. When Indy puts his arm up to adjust his hat
his sleeve is in sunlight there is a little of that sunlight falling
on the hat as well. His suit is blue, his hat is gray, it certainly isn't brown.
The light falling on the hat can certainly affect the color especially in a neutral tone.
And besides, it would be no big deal for Indy to take two hats to Nepal,
that's what the prop guys are for.

Yeah, I think that is a gray hat. And the same hat the Nazi wore in Cairo, with more of less an open crowned look to it. You can zoom in on his hat and see clearly the tight crease on the front of the hat where it was once pinched. Then the hat at the end of the film, on the steps. I would almost bet, these three hats were the same hat. I have an excellent gray hat in stock, a gray with a bit of brownish undertone. It matches what you see on the screen in the airplane that so many folks love to argue over. Regards, and still kicking, Fedora.

It seems I'm the only one posting pics,(evidence) to prove a point. It's not that I'm trying to prove it is brown so much as I would like you to prove it is grey. Everyone is just on a bandwagon that it is grey without showing definitive proof! It seems that everyone one would just PREFER it be grey. That ribbon looks brown, the hat looks frosty brown with GREY OVERTONES. Someone post some freakin' decent picks to prove that it is grey, please! AND grey is spelled WITH AN E!
