Hey,
This may sound odd, but I was messing around with my AB's today, and I realized that if you push the side bashes back a tad, it will actually create a mushroom look without tightening the sweatband.
Try it...let me know if it works.

The Cairo hat has indentations just above the ribbon over the ears. I don't know about Ford, but I don't have room there that low, unless the sweat is folded and/or something is stuffed into the sweat. The exploding truck scene, when the hat is most mushroom like, is the final view of the main Raiders hat....ever! That was the end of shooting in Tunisia.
