Crown height

I have two Adventurebilts with different crown heights , and wanted to get everyone's opinion
on what is better suited for me.

Both look real Cool!

The First is, I believe is 6 inches and the 2nd. is 51/2 inches.

The 2nd. one fits your face dimensions. That is only one opinion.

Just remember, they both look cool!!! It is your choice!

There is really. not much difference!

I really think that Pic #1 is better suited for your face, with its taller crown height. I'm going to guess that there's an inch difference in those two pics. Top: 6, Bottom: 5.

I hate to say it, but both are virtually the same. The pics are shot at a different distance which makes photo 2
appear like a shorter crown.
A photoshopped overlap proves this. Theres maybe less then 1/2 inch of difference.

I would say that you could actually take the crown height down almost a half an inch more for you face proportions
though.
You have a narrow face (like me) and the shorter crown height works better.

Hmmm, I'd kinda go with the 2nd one, but I'd also put some brim curl on it or even trim the brim down a hair. The brim seems a little wide, but that may just be me.

There are the same height. It even looks like the same hat with a different ribbon. The verticle pinch looks identical in both photos.

ok, I guess it's about time I reveal the crown heights of these two hats. The first one is 5 3/4 and the secound is 5 1/2.

There was another thread that had the theory that a taller crown height would give you more hat to push down your center dent. I tried this with both hats and all you get is a taller crown height. Both of these hats I pushed in (or down ) untill the tappered and then backed off a bitt ( so as not to have any tapper). both had the same amount off hat pushed in the center dent.

so thanks for everyone's opinion, it helped alot.

You know, after making these hats since last November, and seeing them on various heads, I am just about convinced that the 5 1/2 open crown hats look the most accurate on the majority of heads. (Ducks, as projectiles are being launched).

Steve. I agree. I ordered mine with a 5 1/2" crown.

jpenman. My face shape is similar to yours and a taller crown looks great when it's not on my head. Then I put in on a taller crown and the proportions are not right for me. (Although both hats look great!)

The reason I first went with the taller crown height( 5 3/4) is the top of my head would touch the top of the hat before it came down to were I would like to wear it. I'm getting used to wearing it a tad higher.

Just kidding. You had a vintage Borsalino, I think it was, at Joe'sStock that I thought looked great. I think that had a shorter crown, if memory serves.

Hey Tim! Long time no see for me.

I don't want to hijack this thread. I'm going to post over in Lao Che sometime today about the name change.

The hat I got was an old Rossellino from ebay. It's a beautiful brown. I had that for the last NE get together.

Good to be back and see everyone is still here and so many good things are going on.

I go the other way myself. I don't like my hat sitting on top of my ears, and there are only two ways to keep it from doing so....either wear one so tight it won't slip...quite uncomfortable...or have the hat where the dent sits on top of my head, holding the hat above my ears. I find this the most comfortable situation...it's just getting the crown the right height, and the dent the right depth that is always a challenge for me. I'm not always successful. Regards! I was just commenting on that as you said you are now wearing yours higher...I have to have the hat sitting on top of my head (as described in my post) to KEEP it high, so as everyone is learning, not all heads are shaped the same. What looks great on you in your photos would slide clear down on my head. I'm envious at times at the way some folks can wear their hats with no work or correction of shape or bash. I have to keep tweaking mine to get it right, and they have been few and far between that I can say they've been a perfect fit and shape for me. Not the hat makers fault....it's my head shape.

Me too Michaelson! My head can take any Raiders fedora or block and turn it into an LC style hat for some mysterious reason!

My AB was/is a wonderful Raiders block and pinch. After the first month of wearing it, I was now thee proud owner of a "Raiders of the Last Crusade" fedora!

Fedora did an amazing job, but my noggin won the battle!

Hey jpenman.

I just wanted to have a comparison of the "lower" crown to look at proportions. Notice Harrisons face proportions and yours are about the same, in scale to the hat.

The crown-to-brim proportions look perfect too! You've got a great lid there. And it fits your face (not too mention it looks perfect Raiders to me!)

Modern jones , thanks for the complement. My first (5 3/4) Adventurebilt came a little stiff (just a tad ) but, after wearing it for a couple of months it's has become so soft. The more I wear it the better looking it gets. I can't wait to break it in my secound one ( 5 1/2 ) but , havent worn it yet ( it still in it's box). Thanks to Steve and everyone who posted here I'll be sticking with the 5 1/2 crown height.
