Why I believe that the sweatband WASN'T folded in Raiders...

Post by Marc »

Hey gang!

I've been following the "no sweatband at all thread" and made my own thoughts on the subject...

3thoubucks once claimed that the sweatband on the stunt hat has a narrow sweatband. If we take for granted (it's just a theory, ok?) that the sweatband on Fords hats were narrow as well and that he DIDN'T fold it (sorry 3thoubucks, but that one's just too far off for me), then how did he get the bumps in the sweatband area? - Paper napkins (didn't you experiment with those as well 3thoubucks?)... After Ace won the AB on the European summit and it was too big, I stuffed two paper napkins under the sweatband. One in the front and one in the rear. The very next day the sweatband had developed a couple of bumps and wrinkles and I'm sure that with a little sweat, these would be visible on the outside as well.

I reckon the hat was just a bit too big for the action scenes and they took a napkin to get rid of the problem. Simple and cheap.

Regards,

Marc

Neither have I buddy. But looking at that "tunnel" (the one that 3KB claims to be from the original / first pinch)... that wouldn't be possible all the way down with a wider sweatband.

Yup, I find it to be possible. In fact, my AB has just a bit of a folded napkin in the rear.

I've seen one hat with a narrow sweatband. My dad has an optimo, (no, not Optimo Hat Co., but an optimo hat) the sweatband measures 1". Its the narrowest of any hat I've seen. I guess it possible that the Raiders hat had a narrow sweatband, but why? :-k

Why not? - When I got my PB, I was surprised of the HUGE sweatband. And while common size is what Steve uses, it might be possible that they had different sizes in Europe 25 years ago. I don't know. I just think it makes sense

Napkins with a narrow sweat could be it. Maybe MK, or someone else could get another look at Vic Armstrong's Raiders stunt double hat, see if the sweat is just narrow, or folded?

Going with the assumption that the hat may have been a bit big, it is also posible that a bit of rubber surgical tubing may have been used to hold the hat on(my great uncle says that is what stuntmen used to hold their hats on in the old westerns he worked on). The bumps couls be produce by the tubing......
