I remember the wooden spoon tutorial, but I haven't found it yet, either.
Here is another that I ran across. www.whyaxis.net/indy/hatshaping/hatshaping.html

To clear up any confusion on the term "wooden spoon" tutorial I may have caused when I talked about it in another thread. Let me explain. A few years ago when I first found Indygear (before I officially joined the ranks) there was a section on bashing and converting. In it the wooden spoon was recommended for creating the "dents" in the front. I took notes and after all this time those are what I used to convert my DP. Sorry for the :?  I however did not realize it is no longer on the site atleast as to what I remember.

If you look on the main site menu under fedoras -- other, and scroll down, you'll see my old Temple and Indy Miller, which I bashed using a large wooden kitchen spoon. That was back in 99 0r 2000. What a long strange trip it's been.

Wow, That's right it has been that long. Man I didn't realize I've been lusting after a fedora for that long!

Wooden spoon is a good idea for creating the center dent.....

That's one obstacle that I have encountered especially when I want to "turn" the hat. The center dent always wants to pop back to the original bash.

I guess a yardstick would work just as good.

My wife uses a frying pan for all her bashing, too, but only when I come in at 3 am with lipstick on my collar.
