Unforunately, he took the picture down, but...
If I didn't know any better, based on how the hat was bulging out around the band area, I would almost say the hat was just a bit too small.
If the hat didn't have taper to begin with, was nice and straight sided and fit properly, I'm thinking it shouldn't have looked the way it did in the first photo.

Could it be, that due to head shape and whatnot the sides "puff" out more than they did more on the block, thus causing the taper?
I know with my Raider style it's really straight when I hold it up, but my distorted head makes the one side look a tad tapered. It's by no means Fedora's fault, because is block is straight.
The only thing I can think of, and this is maybe what Texas had to do, was to reverse taper it by hand, so when the hat is put on, it goes straight?
I dunno, I know nothing....I vote for plastic!!

I'm kinda new at the hat/fedora section here at C.O.W, and my first Indy hat came from Steve at Adventurebilt not too long ago.
I too am not sure what had happened to this customer who was not satisfied, but what Steve says is true when he says that he stands by his 100% guarantee satisfaction in his hat products.
For example, when I had ordered the wrong size (...it's a long story, lol, ), I asked if I could return it. He offered making me an entirely new hat or a full refund of my money....even though "I" was the one at fault. Of course, I was eager to own one of his fine hats, so I went for the new hat! He said, "no problem, just send it back & I'll fix you up."
I realize that Steve has TONS of supporters besides me here at C.O.W, but I just thought that I would post my personal positive experience and to backup Steve's comments on his 100% satisfaction guarantee....Would I buy another hat/fedora from Steve? YOU BET! And I know & trust that he'll do whatever he can to fulfill that pledge to his customers.
All the best & high regards to everyone!

I haven't ever recieved a hat I was unhappy with from Steve. Though, one time, I realized that the only reason I needed a size 7 3/8 is that I had a lot of hair. After a haircut, I realized the hat was way too large, and Steve sized it down to a 7 1/4, for just the standard 10$ fee. Fine customer service, if you ask me. That said, I'll move right along.
Who knows why the hat tapered. The main idea here is that Steve is willing to fix it for you, or give you your money back if that's what you want. It isn't like you're screwed. Plus, he has a much faster response time. So really, what more can you ask for? Give our friend Steve a chance. Send it back, see what happens. If you're still not happy, get a refund. I don't see where the problem lies.
As for the "great hat!" comments: I've personally been of the opinion for awhile that threads with photos of members' hats should be locked once the photos are up, and the comments taken to PM. This way, one member can tell another exactly what they think. Also, this keeps all the generic "nice hat" responses to a minimum.
Also, if you really like the hat, there's nothing wrong with saying so. Not everyone is saying "Nice hat!" just to get their post count up, or make someone feel better.
Rick, glad you didn't take offense, and were able to laugh with me.
Regards,

Let me say that I am not a dissatisfied customer, as Steve can't read my mind as to what I want in the shape of a hat, he didn't fit me, and I think the high humidity in Texas might have something to do with the taper. The Adventurebilt is truly a great hat!! I wanted a certain look to the hat, so here's a link to a page that showed the final final final end result of my re-bash and how I did it.

I like to call this way of shaping, the "string" method. This method dawned on me last night, so I gave it a whirl. Let me know what you all think.

Hat
Can I say great looking hat and a nice job you did. Thanks for posting your string method and sharing your pics. I thought it looked great before as a LC because of the bash of the brim. The brim you have doesn't look that Raiders to me ( but looks great ). The most important thing is you are happy with it.
Great looking fedora, wear it well.
