Adventurbilt Hat
I just ordered another hat today. This one is from Adventurebilt Hats. I ordered it with the Cairo bash and I can't wait to get it. After looking at my adventure pics from 1991 when I had a HJ hat from Lee, I wanted to get back to that look. I have been wearing nothing but HJ's until I bought a grey fedora from Miller Hats and the Akubra Federation. I was going to buy a Poet and have it blocked, bashed and cut to the Raiders dimensions, but I decided to go with Fedora's Adventurebilt.

You will be very happy!
I know I am with mine. I ordered another last month and plan to get another in July! So I will have 2 to switch off on Sundays and Holidays, and one to wear every day. or visa versa. I just love Steve's Fedoras.
Thanks Fedora!!! Cool

If you're going for the Streets of Cairo look, you really do have to beat it up. Not so, for some of the other scenes. I crumpled mine, sat on it, pushed it down, the popped it back up and it looks perfect.Cryptid~Explorer wrote:Ha right, doesn't it change the shape of the bash though.? I wouldn't want to do that.Maybe I'm being to gentel with it though.

My hat came to me today in a whirl wind delivery from the ever might post office! See if you can tell which one it is!

I pm'd fedora to worship his work
I'll tell you all the same thing I told him:
"This hat is reminiscent of the Herbert Johnson hat that Lee Keppler had got for me back in 1990."
The weight of the hat, the quality of workmanship and the quality of materials are of the highest order and I may HAVE to buy a couple more (1 brown, 1 grey).

Right you are! Middle one it is the! Beaver it is! Oh NO! Backwards I'm writing!
The one on the right is my Herbert Johnson and the one on the left is the Akurba.
As I stated in my previous post it has the same weight and feel of my HJ from long ago! I miss that old hat but I had to get rid of it because it shrunk. I think I left it in my car one hot day. If you're not familiar with the hat I am talking about here is an old pic:

Unbeknownst to me at the time, re-shaping/re-sizing was not even thought of. If I still had the hat I would have it re-sized, but I gave it to Goodwill in December.IndianaJones wrote:How would it shrinking be a problem? You just have to get it stretched out again. I told Fedora that I was looking for the Abe Lincoln/top hat look!Skippy wrote:Great hat!Nice stove pipe look
This hat has become the main staple of my everyday attire and I can hardly wait until it becomes worn in a bit.
Like great scotch it gets better with age!

I would be very cautious about this line. Although the Adventurebilt is everything the true Indy fan could ever want at the most reasonable price I have ever seen (short of ebay and a lot of luck), I think it is premature to state that this hat will not taper. People once said the same about the Federation, but I have pictures to prove otherwise as do many others. My advice is to just wear the fedora every day, rain or shine. It will take on a life of it's own with out tapering.
The Adventurebilt is still a young hat and has not been around long enough to accurately judge. Let's give it a year or two of abuse and see what we come up with. I do not want anybody to be mislead. If anyone will come up with a hat that will not taper, it will be Fedora. Maybe he already has, but the true test will be time. I am not sure there is a felt hat that will not taper eventually.
Wearing a hat in and getting it beat up is half the fun of having the best hat on the market. Wear it often and take pictures to document your findings.

I have never aged any of my hats. I wear them rain or shine, blizzard or tornado, 20 below or 110 in the shade. Sweat stains, dust: it's all good!

I'm sorry I_T. That was a TIC (tongue in cheek) reply to Skippy's comment on the "stove pipe look". The only thing I told Steve (Fedora) that I wanted is the Cairo bash.Indiana_Tone wrote:Maybe I'm missing something, ij1936, but did you say you had to specify the stove pipe Abe Lincoln look in order to get that block?

Just keep it away from steam. Steam is the enemy of fur felt. Some people constantly tweak their hats and use steam to do so. If you do this, it will taper much quicker. If you tweak it with you hands, it will be fine.
And Steve is keeping his hats on their blocks much longer, which also helps set a more permanent block to the hat. Enjoy it. It is one of the best hats I've seen.

I think you made a very wise choice. The current Herbert Johnson is just trash. You will very happy with the Adventurebilt ( I'm very happy with mine).
