Pics of the vintage ribbon

Post by Fedora »

Finally got the vintage ribbon in, after waiting for 3 weeks on it. Got lost in the mail, I think. I have 4 photos at this site.http://public.fotki.com/Fedora/hats/vintage3.html

In order to see the detail of the different edging on the modern(lighter brown ribbon) versus the vintage(dark brown), click on "get original photo" so you can enlarge it and see the detail. Look at how the modern ribbon is bound on the edge and compare it to the vintage. Of course, this is a minor difference, as the big difference is this vintage rayon/cotton blend used wood to make the rayon. Not so anymore. Does it matter? Probably not in the least, but I do like installing the vintage ribbon as it is easier to work with, and just the thought that my hats having the best ribbon, and accurate to the Indy period, makes me very pleased. This vintage stuff costs me 3 times the price of modern ribbon, but it is worth it, eventhough it eats in to my meager profit margin. I was so pleased with it that I cleaned out my piggy banks so I could order 3 more rolls of the stuff before it is gone forever. So, now, I have enough to make 300 hats, and this should last me for quite some time. So, any Indy fedoras bought from me from here on out will have this great ribbon on it. Ok, you guys know I have gone nuts when I get all excited over dadgummed grosgrain. I think that I need to get a life!!!!!!!!! regards, Fedora

Hummm. Hard to say exactly. I have had vintage ribbon in the past and used it all up on hats, and then many were made with modern ribbon. But, from now on, the Indy fedoras will get this vintage ribbon, so there will be no question as to what ribbon it has. Oh, I have this vintage stuff in 1 5/8, 1 1/2 and 2 inches for the Young Indy hats. regards, Fedora

Hey Steve, rather then sending you an email, all just ask you here.

My AB order has been in the works for around a month now, I'm just
wondering if I got a slice of that vintage ribbon.?

Yep, sure did. You should be getting yours anyday if it has been that long. Normally, the shipping to Europe takes a week to 10 days, but it has taken longer in some instances, for some reason. I can't connect your online name to your given name right now, so I can't look it up on the mailing date. regards, Fedora

Now I know you!!!!!!! I have a hard time putting the online names with real names, except for the old timers like Michaelson. I mailed your hat out Monday, along with another fan from the UK. Let me know if you like it. Thanks. Fedora

Got it in really dark brown, and black, two shades of black. One is a true black, and the other one is called "iron", the blackish gray you see on many vintage hats.

in that picture, which is the vintage? The brown or the one that looks more black?
The vintage is the dark brown on the right. The modern is on the left, a ligher brown that I put on some of the pecan hats.

Steve, are my eyes playin' tricks on me or is the vintage ribbon wider than the modern?

Actually the ribbon on the left, the modern, is 1 9/16 wide(1/16 past 1 1/2 inches) The vintage ribbon on the right is exactly 1 1/2 inches in width. Regards, Fedora
