Question for Fellow Alden Owners...

Post by Alabama Jones »

Apologize for yet another Alden thread, but I really need some feedback on fit so I can stop obsessing about the length of my boots.

Where does your toe end at the front of the boot?

Standing flat footed, the top of my big toe reaches to just past the moc stitching, leaving a (IMO) considerable amount of room to the end of the shoe. They fit, fine, its just they seem to be inordinately long. Well, I suppose thats better than the toes being scrunched up in the pointy end of the shoe.

I usually wear a 10 1/5 in boots and tennis shoes, but sometimes a 10 in dress shoes. (I bought a 10E). So I'm wondering if I might should have gotten a 9 1/5? Or is this just a quality of the Aldens, roominess at the end of the toe. (Yeah, I know ... "professionaly measured" )

Feedback?

Professonal Podiatrists state there should be no less than 1/2 inch from the end of your big toe to the toe of your boot. Most folks don't do this, and that's why the U. S. leads the world with folks having foot problems. Regards. Michaelson

Thanks Michaelson. I see why you are "The Knower" Master Yoda.

1/2 inch, I've got that, at least, (almost a full inch). Even though they fit fine, I seem to obsess about the length of these, to the point I've considered putting them in Classfieds.

Yep, OK, if I do Zach, you get first crack at 'em.

they don't look so freakishly big in this pic just taken.

Everything I've read supports Michaeson's 1/2 inch theory. I found an interesting bit about boot fit here ... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog. ... subcatID=0 ... look under fit.

I was also surprised by how much room in the end of the 405s recommended by the salesman at the Alden store. However I'm finding them to be very comfortable so I think he knew what he was doing.

As long as your foot isn't moving around inside the boot as you walk causing blisters and discomfort then I wouldn't fret too much - sounds like they may be just right for you. If they feel comfortable, that's nine tenth's of the battle won.

My big toe comes up at about the moc toe stitch line, too. I was professionaly fitted for my Aldens and when they came in and I tried them on, the sales guy said they fit me like they're suppoesed to. I've never had any problems with my Aldens not fitting properly. In fact, if I had blindly ordered what I thought I should have ordered, I would have received an ill-fitting boot. (Well, two of them, really.)

Though you shouldn't have a whole inch of toe room left over, I wonder if the toe space at the end of the shoe varies depending upon the shape of your foot and the width of the shoe you're supposed to have, especially since you measure for heel as well as general foot width. But if you were fitted professionally by someone who knew how to measure for the Aldens, and those Aldens fit comfortably, then I wouldn't worry too much.

RAAAHH ! I AM NOT ALONE !!!!!!!

First i apologize for my bad english !
in second, congratulation for this fantastic website !!!!

:?

Oh my god !!!!

And i have subscribe to the forum because i don't know what to do with the size of my Halden !

That's my obscession too !!!!

so if the lenght of my foot is 9, size of my shoes must be 9.5 even if the haldenshop says that it's bull*** !?

What about the width when it doesn't exist in european measure for shoe !
Anybody as a comparative scale for width ?

we should scan our foot and send it to halden, no ?

si qq'un une explication claire en french ça serait formidable !!

Most good shoe companies do recommend tracing your foot and mailing the tracing in for sizing, if you don't know what you need. I know LL Bean has done this for decades in their mail order business in ordering their home built hunting boots. Regards! Michaelson

Hi guys...i'm a worried man about my alden 405 boot! :?: :!: :?:

I'm a newbie to this forum which is a great source for me and other indyfan to find info about indygear. Okay, i've recently purchased the 405s boot and still waiting for my friend from US to bring it to me in Malaysia because Aldenshop can't ship it to Malaysia....I wonder why?

I purchased my exact size 10.5EE. As what Michaelson said earlier "there should be no less than 1/2 inch from the end of your big toe to the toe of your boot" so i can live with it whether it's 1/2 longer or perfectly fit my feet. I'm just worried about the width. If i purchase size 10.5E does it make a very noticable different compare to the 10.5EE width? Is it normal if the upper leather "lip" (boot top around upper foot) will touch each other when laces are tied? Or that means the width are too wide for me?
I haven't try the boot yet but there's so many question marks :?: inside of my head that makes me worry!!!

I couldn't get my feet professionally measured because it's hard to find people who know how to measure orthopedic shoe here in Malaysia. And i'm sure 99% residents in Malaysia have not heard about "Alden" and don't know what the heck is an orthopedic shoe!! :D.

Regards,
Aidil

My new Alden's have the big toe coming to the moc toe stitch line. A lot of room, but that seems to be the fit most, if not all have here.
I feel better about the length, now
