Buying the right jacket. A quest of mine.

Post by Andy Buse »

Baring a cost ceiling, what is the top two or three Indy Jackets availabe today? My wife promised me I could finally have an Indy Jacket and as long as it wasn't over $800 (OK, so there is a cost ceiling) she said I could have it.

Though I wouldn't mind saving some $... I don't ned a jacket that will stand up to a mine car chase or being dragged behind a tank. Just something to wear that is all Indy!

Thanks!

With exchange rates and everything else, I don't think a Wested would go over $350.00. Choose your leather, jacket style, and get your measurements over to them. I don't think you can do any better. :D

Sweet. That sounds good. A Wested... If I beg, I may be able to get a fedora a year early! (I get all my big cost items at Christmas time.)

I feel so lucky! I almost never get to spend more that $200 at a time on "prop" stuff (what can I say, I'm whipped and loving it!) I've been wearing a US Navy peacoat for so long now that one of the pockets has worn through, all but three of the buttons have gone missing, and the lining is starting to wear thin, so when I said I needed a new coat, and that the Indy coat is what I wanted, my wife capitulated to such a costly purchase because I convinced her it was "needed!"

Yeah, definitely go the Wested route.

You may hear some strong voices talking about Flight Suits jackets, too. For me, however, two things about the Wested make it stand out:

(i) It's tailor made for you and your body. The FS is off the shelf.

(ii) It's made by the people who made THE jacket. The FS, obviously, isn't.

That's not to say that the FS isn't a nice jacket. But the way you refer to the jacket as a 'prop' purchase - I think you're one true brand for this excercise is Wested, and Wested alone.

jacket

I did an enourmous amount of research before buying my jacket. I read tons of posts on this site, too. Then I chose, poorly, with a US wings goat that was too heavy and not what I wanted at all. I then got a wested. Why I waited this long to get it is beyond me. It is perfect. It cost me a total of 340, including shipping, to get it.
