Young Indy whip?

Post by Andiana »

I've never seen the Young Indy series, so of course I am anxiously waiting for the DVDs.

Anyways, in the series, did young Indy ever use a bullwhip? If so, what kind was it? A Morgan? What did it look like?

I'm just curious! Thanks for any info given. 8)

Weirdly, I don't recall a whip in the episodes I've seen. And I'll qualify that I haven't seen them all - but a goodly portion of them. If there was a whip in what I saw, it didn't stand out.

A whip figured into the end of the first episode... I'm not sure of the make or model, but it wasn't a very prominent scene; more of a tribute to his future whip-totting...

Kind regards,
Indy

Ellestree Props just sold the whip used by River Phoenix in the 1912 segment of LC just awhile ago on Ebay. And the whip used by Sean in the 1916 Mexico episode, no one seemed to know where it came from. I asked one of the former props people from the series about it while searching for the Jackal headpiece prop. Keep searching, I'm sure it will come to light! :D

My bet is Indy Magnoli will find out

Thanks for the pic VP! Although that is not the whip I am asking of. I'm just asking about him using a whip in the GENERAL Young Indy series.

BTW - anyone know when those DVDs come out?

Not sure as to the DVDs, I can't waite either. [-o<
Anyway based on the LC and YIJC a whip only shows up twice - first in 1912 on the Dunn & Duffy train and second in 1916 in Mexico at Demetrios' place when Indy steals back the Golden Jackal. Both times only briefly. The last YIJC episode ends in 1920 so based on screen use we can't really say where the whip comes in as a regular item before 1935. hope this helps.

Based on the books however, it's another story. In Perils at Delphi (the first of the series of novels) he uses that, and it's set in 1924 (I think). :junior: -IJ

I think it was in Peril at Delphi that he decided he'd bring it with him everywhere he went. If I remember correctly, he was stuck at the bottom of a revine and thought to himself "If I had only brought my whip...". After that he vowed to keep it with him on all his adventures.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

As for the Young Indy series whip, it could have easily have been obtained by Swaine Adeney Brigg as they claim to have made an original IJ whip, and we know that the film whips are from Morgan. Since they got the hat from HJ for the series, they could have popped in next door to pick up a whip... :-k

Kind regards,
Indy

IM! I knew you would have an answer as to where the whip may have come from. :D Sounds logical to me.
