More of the Dollar Indy Pistol...

Hi,
Follow the link below (hopefully) to see some pictures of the Indy pistol daddy and I made this weekend. It is the same version of a toy that Indiana Josh bought from a dollar shop.
We tried to make it look a little bit like a Raiders S&W.
I helped daddy cut down the barrel to four inches, re-mount the foresight, cut down the handgrips, paint it and add the distressing. We decided to leave the rear sight on, even though the real S&W doesn't have one.
The whole thing only cost a dollar (two dollars AUD), plus a bit of time working on it. It fits great in a Raiders holster.
There's a photo with it next to some of daddy's pistols. The toy we made is in the bottom right of the picture.

I've gone to several dollar stores. Which dollar store did you find it at?

In Australia, it's at a shop called the 'Reject Shop'. The guns usually come mounted on a large backing card with either a western or police theme. When you first buy it, it has a large orange plug on the muzzle. You have to chisel that off carefully with a screwdriver and hammer.
Keep looking, they must be around somewhere. Ask Indiana Josh where he got his in America.
I'd buy one for you and ship it to the States, but I think the customs people would probably say it's illegal.

Bummer I am at school right now, I can't look at the pics thanks to evil Bess, I will take a look when I get home. I need to get a couple more of those and make a Raiders and ToD version out of them sometime. I am always so busy these days making prop replicas is becoming harder. I will get around to that eventually and post some pics.

I usually don't pay much attention to the prop gun end of things, leaving that to the prop maker experts, but have to say that your top picture is one fine example of a Smith and Wesson revolver, and a VERY good example of a Raiders styled revolver, or the Smith HE. He said he bought it in a store in Australia, ITG. And I think you can buy something like that in any good toystore. Now with Halloween coming up. Well, we have several here in Belgium. I remember I had some of those guns when I was a kid. Maybe I should go back there and see what they got now.

No sir. The question was directed to Indiana Josh (not to Indiana Toria and her dad). Josh bought a similar gun here in the states.

I know this is a fairly old thread, but seeing as I just found it, it is new to me. I just recently made several jaunts to nearby Dollar General stores and regular Dollar stores. Couldn't find anything resembling that orginal dollar gun. They must have discontinued them, seeing as they were a dollar. Has anyone tried to recreate this gun in the year 2003? Also, was the toy gun plastic or metal as most of the gun they have out now are skinny western gun with motifs all over the barrels or snub-nose police guns. And thats if they even carry them. Most toys stores have strayed away from guns entirely seeking to carry only non realistic space guns.

After seeing this post I too hit every Dollar General in Sheffield

,Florence

,Muscle Shoals

,and Tuscumbia

for two straight weeks and with no luck.Just when I had given up my son comes home from his grand-parents and says "Look what I got!!"

I'll be darn it's the same gun I've been looking for $\:D/$ .He got it at a dollar store called "Dollar Works".When I went and got mine I asked the lady how often did they get these in.She said they had been open for 4 years and had had them consistantly since then.I'll check back with them this week..

Sheffield, if I sent you enough money for it and for postage, could you pick me up one? I've looked here and in Oklahoma but cannot find one anywhere. Would there be any modifications that would need to be done to it, as I wouldn't be interested in it if I had to doctor it up.

I'm also interested in knowing if it was plastic or metal. For $1, I'm imagining it was plastic.

It is plastic.

The only modifications were cut the barrel down a little over an inch, and move the sights back.Fairly Simple and Harmless,"Trust Me."

The gun is plastic.
To cut it i used a fine tooth hobby saw.
I checked yesterday and they were all out again,i'll keep checking back out there and will keep you posted

You got it! The plastic gun, "Made in China" and all :!:

Did you use a saw to cut the grips into shape aswell?
What kind of stuff did you use for the distressing?
Did you put weights inside?
Some more info would be great if you'd like to share.

*Coughs* Ehumm... This is how mine came out:

Not even close to being as good as Indiana Toria's, but you can spot some resemblance looking at it through a couple of Coke bottles on a non-moony night..

Now I only have to find a holster to hide it in.

Items/tools used:
1 Victorinox Swiss army knife
1 hot glue gun
1 can of black spray paint
2 tops from snap buttons
2 hours of sweat, blood and fears

I noticed my gun isn't the exact same "dollar gun", the grips are a bit different and some screws are placed differently too.

So... What's the best holster to get, Keppler?

Yes, I think I'll put the loop there eventually. I've thought of a part from a certain detachable keychain that I think might work.
