I put in my order for a Wested Temple jacked on Friday! Whoohoo!
However... I've done the unthinkable... I requested that the flap pockets be replaced by slit pockets (see photoshopped picture, with apologies to the photos original owner).
I know, I know, "what are ya thinkin', man?!".
Well, while I love the look of the flap pockets on the Indy jacket, I'm now paranoid reading the horror stories of the flap pockets ripping accidentally. With my kind of luck, it'd happen within a week . And - I want this jacket to last 20 years. Maybe longer .
And so I decided to experiment. I still think it will have most of he Indy character, particularly the back with the action pleats - which is what I love most about the style.
I'm curious what y'all think of my decision
Cheers,
jeff
As Henry Jones Sr. would say... "That's Blasphemy!"

I agree with Rob - its not an Indy jacket per se but it looks nice.
I personally really like look and practicality of the cargo pockets. They are actually very sturdy and hardwearing, its the handwarmer slits which have a tendancy to snag on things.
If fear of ripping the pockets was your only reason for not getting them, you could perhaps have ordered the jacket with the cargo pockets, but no handwarmers?

I think it will look great...the pic sure does. As you said what you really wanted is the back pleats anyway. I bought a great leather this winter before I found this site, a dress jacket in Lamb, indy look only as far as it is a straight jacket with not woolen to bind the sleeves or bottom and I love that jacket..I kinda like the way those pockets look in the pic you supplied, maybe better than the indy (oh I don't really mean that, do I).
Thanks all, for not thinking me completely loco. Just a little loco .
I agree - without the pockets it's no longer an Indy jacket. And, I'm ok with that... for now , 'cause there's nothing stopping me from ordering another someday - well other than my wife - that is dead screen accurate (well, screen accurate in my mind - I realize how open to interpretation that phrase is). But that second screen accurate jacket, probably in authentic lamb, I'd probably baby. The jacket I ordered Friday - I think this will be my "wear it till I'm dead" daily jacket.
Oh! Did I mention that I ordered it in horsehide? I don't think I did. Yeah, I know there a huge waiting list - but I'm fine with that, we're heading into the summer months here in California, I can be patient. Besides, I kinda like the apprehention effect, sort of like waiting for Christmas.

Jeff,
To tell you the truth, I don't think those pockets that you posted would be any less resistant to snagging than the handwarmer pockets. They are both slanted slits cut in the leather. The only difference is that the jacket pictured doesn't have the cargo pockets sewn on the outside, and the cargo pockets aren't the problem.
I have had a Wested lamb for more than a year and have worn other jackets of this style for years and have never had the pocket on these or any other jacket snag. I don't really think that this problem is running rampant around here.
