Cotton Raiders - Pics coming relatively soon!

Post by McFly »

Hey guys - just thought I'd share with you. I had some cash, and seeing as how I have such a huge hole in my pocket, I had been debating on whether to get a gunbelt, a Todd's revolver, or a holster. Then the rains came here in So. Cal, and I began to think about other pieces of gear, like the jacket. I freeze every morning, even with a jacket, or sweatshirt, and a scarf. I came to be such good friends with anything that would keep me warm, that I thought, "Why not keep warm with a Wested?" So I went and took my money to Gerry. I wasn't going to get a leather one, because I don't want to grow out of it and then have to get another one, and there goes all that money, and I really liked the looks of Ghos7assa55in's so I thought I'd get one of those. It's scheduled to arrive the afternoon of the day I leave for Cancun, so I don't think I'll be home to get it.

Some questions though...

How does it hold up in, say... 40*F weather? What about rain?

Wasn't there a comprehensive review or something somewhere? I couldn't find it!

Are there instances of the jacket arriving early? Even one day?

I'll be sure to post pics when I get it!

In Christ,
Shane

So far mine has held up fine. I haven't worn it in the rain but I'm sure you could Scotguard it first. I think you'll love it. It's a lightweight coat so you wouldn't want to wear it if it's like 32 degrees or below. In fact I probably wouldn't wear it if it were 45 or below. But it's a great jacket when it's a bit nippy outside.

I'm wearing mine today, and it's probably been the most used of my 'Indy' jackets all year. It layers great with a sweater if it's to warm for a heavy leather jacket. I DEFINITELY recommend Scotchgarding, as it is cotton, and will soak up water like a sponge if you get caught in a heavy downpour. Once treated, you have a bit more protection. It dries out very fast too. I'm very pleased with mine so far. Still wish I had asked for the rectangular slides rather than the D-rings, but I'm ok with them now. The slippage can be dealt with.

You're really going to like that jacket!

if you wear it with other layers its a good jacket. But buy it self you will freeze. Uasualy when its cold at all i wear my leather jacket instead of
my cotton one. Ive really only had experience with the cotton jacket in
the fall, and i would freeze when i would wear it early in the day.

Guess it all depends on where you live. I wore mine all Fall with no layering, and was just fine....but then I live in the South. I imagine if you're further north or west, you would rather use it as an outside 'shell' rather than the main covering. I'm kind of in the opposite situation where it has to be pretty cold before I can put on my goatskin, by itself OR layered. The cotton version has filled that 'bill' nicely for me. Regards. Hmm... so I should be fine here then, right? Maybe I'll get back to you all when I get it, and test it out. Maybe I'll be the first Cotton Wested in CA? Otherwise, we should get whoever else has one in CA, probably "Indiana Something" or "Indy So-and-So" who we've never heard of, to come let us know how they are here.

...if any of that makes sense, I'll be surprised.

Thanks everybody... will post stuff when I get it.

...what happens after 5 minutes? :? :o

Hey everybody, just wanted to say I do appreciate all the comments. I've been kind of worried lately about this jacket... one thing I'm worried about is the size I gave him for my chest. We measured it like were told, but the measurement I gave isn't going to be the exact same as my jacket, right? Cuz that might be a little tight... and I gave that same number for jacket size... he'll make it good, right?

In Christ,
Shane

I'm sure Peter knows what he's doing, but do I know that he's doing what he know's he's doing?

I'm sure he'll make it good, but I guess you could always drop them a line or give them a call if you are concerned.

The jacket is definitely a perfect Cali jacket. I think if you layer it underneath it can used for an above-freezing jacket. I wore it up in Blackcomb Whistler over the summer, and there it's like 40 or 50 degrees maximum. I wore it in the rain like 3 times w/o scotchguard. That thing is like a sponge, but if you hang it out to dry, it should dry fairly quickly.

Well, tomorrow I leave for Cancun.

My Wested "arrived" today, but nobody was home to get it, SO... it was sent back to the post office. I can pick it up tomorrow at 8:30am. My plane for Cancun leaves at 6:30 am. I'll be gone for 6 days, and if I don't pick it up within 5, it's sent back to England.

Luckily, a friend of my mom's is going to pick it up for us tomorrow (Thank God, too... I don't think I could hold out much longer).

I'll post pictures once I finally get the thing! :-#
It's been a fun wait. When I order my leather one, I'm sure it'll be 10x worse.

My next post in this thread will include pictures. Promise!

Make sure you leave that signed pickup slip for her, and hopefully they won't have a problem releasing it to her!

Holy COW, soooo many birthdays!
Yo, Happy Bithrday Mcfly, hope you have a great day! :D

BTW - Your Cotton Wested looks great on ya man! You got more attention then me at DL when we were there a couple weeks ago!

(Hey, remember the guy with the Wested in California Adventure? He said he'd check out the site....hmmm...he didn't seem to know about COW, or Indygear.com, but he seemed to know what the jacket was and it looks like he did his 'homework..')

Hey Shane!
Glad to hear you got yours! Mine has broken in tremendously, and has seen its share of Raider-esque adventure. The side straps haven't ripped off yet, Molorom, but the seam at the bottom where the pleats meet have popped.

Cool! Who wants to go into the server room first on wires, you or Bink? I promise not to fly you around Peter Pan style this time...

...unless Michaelson wants some REALLY challenging target practice...

(I really wanted to suggest putting Michaelson on the wires, but the thought of giving either of you the shotgun....brrrrrr....)
