More vintage ribbon for ABs
I just lucked up again on some 39 mm vintage ribbon, dark brown. So, now my hats will feature early 1900s vintage ribbon again. He has 500 yards of it, and I am buying it all!!! I am also buying some steel gray for none Indy gray hats as I have tagged in on a medium gray beaver body when my felter runs this color again. Just an update. regards, Fedora

Sorry, the weather's getting nice again and I can't help myself
Most folks could care less about the ribbon, as long as it is a dark enough brown to contrast with the hat. But, the best looking ribbon was made in the old days, and I am constantly looking for the highest quality ribbon. Of course, this means looking backward in time. When someone discovers dozens of rolls of vintage ribbon, in the 16 ligne size, I start to drool!! Of course, it costs me 4 times as much as new ribbon, but to me, it is worth it. It is the one weak point of my hats, having to use modern ribbon, and it bothers me, each time I sew one on. Looks like I will feel even better about the quality of my hats, here shortly. Fedora

Fedora, do you have pictures of the gray fedora?
Not right now. But, I have to make one this week so I will take some pics. The gray that I have been using is a charcoal gray, about the same shade as the Federation gray. But, I have tagged in on a special run of medium grays that I will have soon for those wanting a lighter gray. The color is called granite and is very nice. Fedora
Heehee... that might just be mine -- I'm dying to see how it comes out!Fedora wrote:Not right now. But, I have to make one this week so I will take some pics. So, as my first post - after lurking for some time - I'd like to thank you all for the incredibly valuable information, in particular the recommendations (and pictures) of Steve's Adventurebilt.
I've wanted a charcoal fedora in the Indy style for a really long time - since around 1984 or so, but never found one thats "just right". When I saw Steve's hat - and that he could make them in diferent felt colors, that cinched it, I knew immediately I'd be ordering one. :8
I was going to post saying that I'd post pictures when I receive it, but it sounds like Steve will beat me to the punch .
Again, thanks all, for the incredible forum!
