A new thought on the Raiders fedora...
Well kind of a new thought. A thought that backs up some older theories, at least. I've always felt that Ford's fedora was too big for him. That's a big part of the shape. It's mostly the result of the of the ribbon being pulled of and reapplied tighter, which crushed the hat. We know from the DVD's that Nadoolman's eye was caught by a fedora with a higher crown than most. If you read the Fed description at hatsdirect.com it says the fed has a 5 1/2" to 6" crown proportionate to size. What if Ford's hat was too big because it was the only way they could get the higher crown?

The ballooning shape of the hat comes not from the ribbon being too tightened, it's because his hat was too tight that this occurs. After all, if his hat were too big, it would have fallen off at every scene. My fedora buldges out and it's slightly too tight. When I try to pull it down tighter, the hat buldges more. It's perfect.

This is my theory as well and the reason I like a tight fir with my hats. 6 5/8 ensures a perfect fit for me.agent5 wrote:The ballooning shape of the hat comes not from the ribbon being too tightened, it's because his hat was too tight that this occurs. I don't attach my ribbons to my hats. They are just loops I can slide on foreward and back, and switch to other hats quick. I put a sub 7 1/8 ribbon loop on a 7 1/4+ turned hat, and that channel under the ribbon in the front dent over Indy's right eye just formed itself in the right spot and deep. Something has to give and that's the most likely place (more so on that side because it's a turned hat) I think the Raiders bow looks overstressed, plus there's a bit of ribbon you can see sticking out the bottom. I think it was tightened. Makes the bow puffier as well. Still waiting for my Akubra Colly. Ordered it one size too big, will fold the sweat, and tighten the ribbon.

Well considering my head is in between 6 5/8 and 6 3/4 its fine. Depending on how I wear it on my heard I can get wear marks though.Renderking Fisk wrote:Do you keep a bottle of Asprin in your bag?Indiana Ken wrote: This is my theory as well and the reason I like a tight fir with my hats. 6 5/8 ensures a perfect fit for me.
