Wested Rising!

Post by Shawnkara »

This is a sad thing. I was looking at Wested's site today. The prices are listed from 145 pounds which, according to the site is $250.00 with the exchange rate. I checked it against a currenct converter and the exchange rate now puts the US cost up to about $273.00! Sad.

The US dollar has lost about 1/3 of its value against the Euro during the recent past.

I payed $309, shipping and all for my Wested last August. At least when it finally got here in November I got out of any customs fees.

So finally living in England actually pays off! :P

Usually the real sting when ordering overseas comes from the postage.

Exactly, unless you can get it marked as 'gift' to avoid customs duties.

I have not ordered a Wested just because of the exchange rate. And, that's probably dumb, because I doubt it will change anytime soon.

Just think about it this way, DBLIII; the exchange rate could go up even further, so it would be wise to get one now while they're still cheap. Its a good excuse to get a Wested. :junior: -IJ

Isn't the price pretty close to FS or US Wings?

Compared to some department store popular clothing brand leather non-Indy jackets, the Wested price is still comparable, or in many cases, less than what one would pay retail here in Toronto.

In my opinion, even with the exchange rate it's still a good deal, price-wise, especially given Wested's "pedigree".

Now if they could just do something about getting them horsehides...

I agree, for a hand made quality leather jacket the price is really good. I have seen many mass produced leather jackets in your standard sizes for more than a Wested, and they were probably made in a sweat shop somewhere. I got lucky, mine Wested only cost me about $280 cause I had a friend who was in England pick it up for me and bring it back. No duty, no shipping. :D

Sorry I know it's not nice to brag.

I should have said that in my original post  I didn't mean it's not worth it. It definately is. I meant the current exchange rate itself is sad, NOT the price-to-product comparrison. It's just sad that we can't get them at the low price we used to get them at.

If I ordered a jacket right now, I'd have to pay about 310 bucks.

wested proice still good

Post by shadwell55 »

The wested price has gone up thanks to weak dollar but compared fo FS, it is a steal. FS wants 428 without shipping. Wings is cheaper, but a heavier coat and not a great fit.

When I bought my last Wested Goatskin jacket, with all the extra goodies (like the underarm gussetts) plus with the higher custom fees that I paid at that time, my "total" bill probably came out to roughly $350.

The Flightsuits Lambskin costs like $425, but their Goatskin is $408. That was what I paid for my Flightsuits Goatskin jacket. So, it appears that the price ranges for each vendor are getting closer & closer as time progresses....I agree, the Wested cost is still very good & I would still purchase from them in a heartbeat! :D

Kind Regards,
Captain D
