Ordering Wested with no handwarmer pockets

Post by wemedge »

Just wondering if anyone else has ordered their Westeds without the hand warmer pockets; I know some of you have had them sewn shut afterwards.

I ordered my horsehide Raiders without the hand warmer pockets. Not accurate, I know, but I wanted to save the repair work down the line and prevent sagging.

regards,

If it were me, I think I'd go ahead and order them being made like the original, only sewn shut in case you would want them open later on. Much like the do on suit jackets. :D

Did Wested say anything about not being able to return the jacket in case of alterations needed on this one?

No mention about returns at all. My only communication with Wested were emails and a phone call to confirm some details. However, I don't think mine would be returnable in any case because I also added an extra inner pocket and snaps on the storm flap, 80s fit, US zipper. Hopefully I did not screw up the measurements and it will fit! Otherwise I will have a very nice Indy horsehide wall-art...

You are correct, leaving the handwarmer pockets would be a prudent choice in case needed later on, but I'm too clumsy and will invariably rip the pockets off

Sounds all good then, and a good prospect of it being naturally distressed in a rapid manner.

Pictures are obligatory when it arrives! :)

I guess I have a lot to learn...these hand warmer pockets rip? Hmmmm, sounds like a problem for sure, too bad as I love these kind of pockets and the ability to use them...just how fragile are they?

Thanks

I caught mine on the arm of a chair when I was sitting down and the seams gave a tiny bit but they didn't rip or anything. I think maybe two or three stitches busted but otherwise the pocket held fine. Haven't had any troubles recently with it. I know of one member, NeosMatrix, who has had two different Westeds rip at the handwarmer pockets.

I wonder if Peter will do double stitches just where they meet with the cargo pockets? (Upper and lower part.) Looking at it, they do look kind of fragile with the single stitching if getting caught on something, though I haven't had any trouble with mine yet.
