There was some talk a while back regarding widths of aldens and a good method to guage fit. Something about the distance between the eyelets after you tied'em up.
Is there a rule for this?
thanks.

There sure isn't
Unfortunately, there was a change in the design of the 405's between last year and the January 1st price change. There seems to be less leather in the top of the boots than in previous pairs. My old pair ties up almost closed when laced, and have since the day I received them. My new pair lace up almost an inch to an inch and a half apart between the top edges, and have never pulled closer after almost a year of use. I noted the same thing between examples worn at the QM summit, so you can not use that as a guage for sizing. This question has been brought up to Aldens directly, as well as Allen White through the Alden shop, and to date there has been nothing but silence from the customer service department. Regards. Thanks Michaelson,
That helps quite a bit actually.
A friend of mine recently bought a pair and isn't sure if he should go down a width.
Mine fit great but I think mine are of the newer variety because even in a EE width, I still have a good 1/2 inch between the eyelets.
High regards, as always
