Whip laws in Mexico?

Post by McFly »

Hey guys,

I was talking to Bink about our trip to Cancun (we'll be leaving this week - me on Wednesday... yeah, I've got a day for replies) and I asked him if he's bringing his whip, and he said he didn't know about whipcracking in a foreign country.

Just out of curiousity (I don't think I'll do FULL gear), what are the laws regarding bullwhips in Mexico? Does anybody know? Maybe I could just let it sit on my belt... might make for some good pictures. lol

In Christ,
Shane

Both my bullwhips were made in Mexico, so it should be okay to use or carry one if you don't hit a cop with your whip. ;)

"Debe ser bien si usted no golpea a la policía con el latigo." <--that's probably not even close, is it?

Well... I only caught two mistakes, and those are that it should read, "tu látigo." Seems you wanted to be grammatically correct with the accent in "police." Other than that - looks good.

¡Buen trabajo, y muchas gracias también!

Heck, I'd love to see the whip go through customs, even!

Pack the whips in your checked luggage and you should be fine.

I've never been to Mexico, but I can bet that no laws exist for carring or using a whip. Such laws seem to be in vogue in more "civilized" countries in Europe... :?

And, Snakewhip_Sable, your spanish sentence was pretty close. I would say it like this:

"No debería haber problemas si usas o llevas uno... si no le pegas a un policía con tu látigo"

I've flown from NY to Taiwan, back, and by bus from NY to Canada and back. There shouldn't be a problem if you put it into the checked baggage, and even if u had it in your carry-on, it'd be quite diffcult to use an 8-ft. whip inside of an airplane cabinet if they were implying you could use it as a weapon during the flight. I believe I read that in California, a whip is technically considered a "sound-making device", and isn't illegal. I would assume Mexico's laws wouldn't be much more strict than that.

You could use a whip as a garote, if you were so inclined.

You had a whip with you when we met at the Stampede, didn't you, Ghos7a55assin?

As far as I know, there is no law against carrying a whip,of course, that is if you do not use it.
But, in Cancun, I don't think you even have time to crack it.

I agree. I'm not bringing mine simply because I'll have plenty in and around Cancun to keep me occupied! It's still interesting to know, though. Besides, I don't even have a clue as to where I'd be able to do any whip cracking down there!

Bullwhips are illegal to have on planes. This was talked about before. and the idea that they could be used to strangle someone with was brought up.

As you could a necktie, but a whip seems to imply...trouble. ;)

You could also put ball point pens in each of a person's ears and smack together them until they touch, if you were so inclined.

But they won't take your pens.

Stow the whip - that way you can KEEP it. That's the way to go. Though when I got questioned about mine, it's because they randomly searched my CHECKED luggage - but they let me continue despite the dirty, dirty looks they gave me. The dirty looks might've been from my glib retorts though.

okay, there certainly were.

Oh, hey, they took my pens! I must have looked like someone who was thinking about doing that. This was shortly after 9/11...

They made me pack my laser pointer, too. I can appreciate that, but it was also a bit silly. Soon we will have to fly naked. (Don't worry, they'll let you wear special paper clothes. But your own clothes will HAVE to be checked. )

We'll have Steve start on making paper Adventurebuilts to meet the demand in advance. Pulp isn't that different than felt. ;)

 Okay, before this gets off topic, thanks for the replies. I'm glad we seem to think it should be fine, but like it's been said, there's probably no time anyway. Thanks for the replies though!

Nah, I'll be nice to Shane. I won't steal his wallet. His parents, on the other hand... :P

And Jerry, maybe you SHOULD check your clothes. Your wardrobe could use an update, you know. I mean, who wears dresses like that anymore?

Okay, Jerry, time to go on a shopping spree. We gotta make our wardrobe look as good as Michaelson's. Blue plaid shirts for everybody!
