Conversion of a jacket

Post by Snakewhip_Sable »

Has anyone converted a non-indy jacket to look more like a Wested? Results? Photos?

Actually, there was a guy a while ago who posted pics of his son on Halloween. he took a purple pleather trench coat, and cut n' pasted it together as an Indy jacket. A bit of spray paint, sewing here n' there, and it turned out great!

Dunno if the post is still around, or was lost in the updates, but was definitely worth the look.

My "first" Indy Jacket was back in 1985. It was a leather trenchcoat ($8 from a garage sale) my mother helped me modify. (That means she did the work)...

She did the following:

Removed the buttons
Added a zipper
Raised up the bottom of the jacket
Moved up the pockets

It was already sort of distressed, and the color compares nicely to the Indy jackets we have today. Collar looked good to. It already had bucket cuffs and even thou not accurate, had a Indy Shirt-type pair of pleats on the front. :) I still have it, even though it no longer fits me. But in 1985, it looks more than good enought for me. Here's a pic from October 1985...
