On the last possible day to receive mail before Christmas, my Adventurebilt hat arrived, and boy was I not disappointed. After some re-shaping—much of the shape had left the hat in shipping as noted by others—I was able to get the look I wanted. This was easily done because the felt is wonderful to work with and of a much higher quality than anything else I’ve ever seen or owned. It’s soft and feels absolutely wonderful to the touch. The color is a rich chocolate brown that looks quite screen accurate in a very pleasing-to-the-eye way. If you dare, I’m convinced that with an application of Fullers Earth one could obtain the true Raiders hat quite easily. I’m happy to report that even without stiffener, the fedora has held its shape for almost two weeks now. I curled the sides and front of the brim quite dramatically and none of the shape has left the felt at all. I’m relieved because I really wanted a floppy fedora and not a stiff cowboy hat. The fit of the hat is a little large, but then so was the Poet HJ sent me. I like a slightly larger fit to start with. After a few months my HJ started to shrink a little and form itself to my head, finally becoming the most comfortable hat I owned at the time. I believe this will happen to my Adventurebilt as well. After a couple steam treatments it’s already feeling a little snugger.
This is the fedora I’ve wanted since watching Raiders almost 24 years ago. I had Fedora turn the hat and wouldn’t want it any other way after seeing the results with my own eyes. I’ve always had an eye for detail and was never quite satisfied with the accuracy of my other hats, but this one is the Raiders hat. It’s tall and non-tapered. It’s floppy but will hold its shape well. It’s classy, but has its own style—the felt almost feels alive.
As soon as I can get my hands on a digital camera I’ll post some pictures.
The quality is fantastic, the look is so right for the Raiders hat, and the price is unbeatable. I love this hat.
Thanks, Fedora. Thanks for using your vast knowledge of gentleman’s hats to give to us, the Indiana Jones gear buffs, something to be proud to wear. You’ve offered us a quality hat at a truly reasonable price. I’ve owned several fedoras over the years, but none are as wonderful as your Adventurebilt.
