The Eagle Has Landed (got my Wested order), but........

Post by bclead »

Well, I finally got my Wested order, and timing wise it was pretty darn close to what they told me when I placed my order. No comlaints there! I have not had the chance to try the trousers or shirt yet. The Last Crusade Jacket is really lovely. The only bummer is that the sleeves are 2" too short. I ordered the size 46 Long (I'm about 6' 210 lbs.) and the sleeves are 24 1/2" long! According to their site, the sleeves for this size are supposed to be 26 3/4" long. I have already emailed Jerry to see what to do, but I am MAJORLY bummed  ! I guess I must have done something REALLY bad in a previous life. I will keep you posted!

Man I am really sorry to hear that Bruce. I can imagine how awful that would be after a long wait. Good luck getting it shipped back and fixed with a quick turn around back to you, if that's what you decide to do.

Yikes! That's too bad #-o

I didn't pay attention their measurements on the site, most of the folks around here advised to send in actual measurements (I had a tailor measure me) and from other jackets that fit etc, and that's how I played it. I also am getting a 46L (cut large) and gave them a sleeve length of 26.5". I hope that's enough :?

What hide did you order your LC in? How close was their timing? I got horsehide, and today would be the 3 week mark they gave me for completion....so I anxiously await an email with the shipping notification. Hopefully it ships today or tomorrow [-o<

Bruce,
I am so sorry to hear about the sleeves. You have to send that jacket back, no matter how tough it is. Make sure to write return on it for customs!

Bjones was right, it's better to send your actual measurements, especially concerning sleeves!

Good luck. It sounds like you'll have to wait a bit more, but it sounds like you have a ton of other new gear to tide you over.

I DID measure my sleeves and communicated my sleeve concerns to them before I ordered. You see I have VERY long arms (I'm virtualy a knuckle dragger  ) and often have problems getting shirts and/or jacksts to fit properly in the sleeve department. So I emailed them with that concern as well as my measured sleeve length and they assured me it would be no problemo! I imagine that somebody made a major booboo, because the sleeve length is more like the length that would go along with a size 40R jacket! I am enjoying the eau du leather in my office today, though!!!

If it is determined that it was an error by Wested, will they pay for the shipping costs for the returned item and the replacement jacket?

Bruce,
I have 36" 1/2" arms, so I know how you feel. I wear a 16 1/2" neck and those long arms. Before I discovered LL Bean, I had trouble finding dress shirts!
Good luck on the jacket!

Once again, I REALLY hope you're measuring from the base of the neck to the end of your wrist, Hemingway. I supply my arm measurement from the shoulder seam, and MINE are only 25 inches, and I'm almost 6 feet 2 inches tall! If you're measuring the same, my gosh, you must drag your knuckles on the ground!   Regards. Michaelson

Michaelson,
You just cracked me up at work! Now people are looking at me and I am sneaking onto COW!
36 1/2" is my dress shirt size. I have no idea what it's measured from, or to. I think it might be up one arm and down the other! And this takes into account the 1/4" or so it shrinks.
I think, but I'm not sure, that my length for my Wested was 26 1/2" or something.

Here is a description I found for sleeve length for dress shirts:

"Sleeve length is the length from the middle of your back to the shoulder and down your arm to your wrist bone. Round up to the nearest inch. Many dress shirts are sized with a sleeve range, such as a 34-35 sleeve."

When I read that it was your arm length, my thought was that your arms are longer than my legs!

There you go, Axel. THAT'S what I thought he meant with that measurement, but I read it the same way. High regards. Michaelson

I like to keep you guys on your toes!

Around the office, if you comment on someone's arm length you are likely to get their dress shirt size as a response. Few people, outside of this forum, know the length of their arms, but everyone knows their dress shirt size.

I am going to have to be more accurate with what I write.

Well, out here in the country, we're lucky if we even know our shirt sizes ....period.....but at least we know how long our arms are.... High regards. Michaelson
p.s. to explain WHY we don't know our shirt sizes.....us old married guys get our shirts purchased and given to us by our wives and children, so speaking for myself, I have no CLUE what size I wear anymore.   Sorta reminds me of an old story I read about a famous dancer back in the 40's who was asked during a performance just how long her legs really were? She thought for a moment, and said," heck, all I know is they reach all the way to the floor! Does that answer your question?"

Hmmm...6 weeks Bruce. I'm a bit confused why I was quoted 3 weeks(-shipping) when I placed my order Nov 11, and absolutley no one has recieved their jacket in less than 4.5-5 weeks? I hope that "3 weeks" isn't their canned response for timing regardless of workload or hide problems. I was getting excited that my jackey may be shipping out any day now.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma my friend, no disrespect intended but just when I feel that Wested is getting better and better with things, this kind of situation occurs. I have to say, I own two Wested's, one from way back when and one I just received. I had no problem with my Wested orders, this one was a lot faster of course. I emailed Peter 21 days to the day after I ordered my Wested and sure enough he had shipped it out that day and the quota was met. I was very happy with the service this time around, every email was met with a reply in short order and my jacket was well worth the wait. But enough about my jacket and back to your predicament. Wested's measuring method when it comes to sleeves is a little different. The proper sleeve measuring method is from the mid of your collar to the wrist area. They however go from the top of you sleeve, or the seem of your sleeve to the wrist area. I can see how this mix up can happen, it may be a production ended, or, and meaning no disrespect to you, it may have been customer error. Which would only be a misunderstanding and one that is very understandable. I wish you good luck with this dilemma and hope it works out well for you. Over all my opinion on Wested's jackets is this, they are good Indy jackets, made nowadays better than ever before. The hides are great and they are great for distressing. I hope that Peter continues to progress his jacket even more towards a more accurate jacket. The pattern keeps getting better, the customer service was much better for me at least this time around. But the jackets do still lack in minor inaccuracies, which can be fixed with a revision of the pattern. To me and many others, the Expedition is still the raining king, Raiders of course, but still the best all around. Even with FS recent drop in customer service and so forth, the jackets are still good at the moment, but who knows what the future will hold for them as a company. They have made some very big business mistakes this past year and it is hurting them. We can only wait and see what happens, all I have to say is, if you want an Expedition, get one now, while they continue to be of good quality, because who knows what they are going to do next. I almost fear they will get rid of the pattern and discontinue the jacket in the far future. I hope I am wrong in that statement and that they continue to make the jackets. I hope that they can make some better business decisions and get back to the better days when you could have anything custom done for you. Well, I hope you all can excuse my ranting and keep the faith. Bottom line Wested is improving and I hope it will continue, you all know that as well as I.

Hey all.....still no word from Wested! For those who were curious, I DID send them my exact measurements. I myself sew, and have made clothing including my children's haloween costumes (I'm actually pretty good if I do say so myself!). My wife, unfortunately does not sew. She does have many other atributes - and she puts up with me - for that she's a saint!!! Anyway I DO know how to take correct measurements and sent them to Wested. As I said above, I'm sure it was just a minor malfunction - just disappointing! Gotta run and hem some trousers for my son (true!!).

Try giving them a call. While I have heard of a lot of difficulties dealing with Wested via email, those who go the extra step and call usually have very positive experiences.

Monday as in two days ago? You have to give them some time. I am assuming you sent it by Fed Ex. Still, they may be busy and may not have had a chance to open the package.

Hemingway,

I'm not trying to speak for Bruce, but I think he meant that Wested still hasn't responded to his email that he sent last week.

Axel,
I think you're right. Sometimes I read things too literally. He hasn't heard back from his email and he sent the jacket back: two separate thoughts. Guy is right about the telephone. Wested appears to be much more responsive by phone.

Thanks Axel, that is what I meant.

I sent the jacket back Globel Priority Mail. On Wested's web site, it said not to send items via UPS or Fed-Ex because they charge them (Wested) a handling fee in the UK.

Bruce,
Don't worry. This will be resolved. Wested will take good care of you when all is said and done. I suggest a telephone call may be in order. It's not too expensive to call the UK, unless you only have a mobile as I do.
Good luck!

Well.....I finally got an email back from Gerry of Wested. He said that I ordered the sleeves to be shortened to 25 1/2". I don't remember that, but it is possible he is correct, however, the actual sleeves on the jacket were 24 1/2"! We'll see what happens when the jacket arrives at Wested. Until then............

My jacket has been received by Wested, and Gerry assures me that the sleeves were as I ordered them (OK, Mea Culpa, I screwed up!) They are adding two inches to the sleeves to make it (hopefully) fit. Please join us next time for our exciting conclusion...........

Yes folks, the eagle has truly landed and it is here to stay!!!! I received my Wested LC goat back from Wested today and I could not be happier. They corrected my error on the sleeves, and now it fits like a charm. To say that I am thrilled would be totally understating things! But it didn't end there.......no.........

As I was trying on my new, perfectly fitted Wested LC, the UPS man comes into my office with a big box in which was nestled my new (Todd's Costumes) HJ styled with the ROTLA Dress. Man.......am I lucky or what!
