Revenge of the Burlington coat Factory Hat

Post by Dalexs »

For those who may remember, I thought I'd share this little tidbit...
My 2nd grader was playing a lead in the annual Thanksgiving play at school
and we as parents were suppose to "help" with a costume for the kids...
Fedora was busy doing all of his new hats, so I had to take it upon myself to reblock this old one...

I found that the old Burlington Coat factory find of last year may be made a swell Pilgrim hat! Look ma, No Taper! :D

Image
I doubt I will ever get this one back to its original shape... Fedora, a little help here maybe!

BTW I've been to BCF and can't find nearly the stock of these hats we had last year.

LOL - I remember when the Burlington hats came to the 'fore' - but I can't believe what you've done to it!

Even Fedora might struggle to work his magic on that, I think! And that buckle isn't screen accurate, BTW.

Al

Tis the season for BCF Czech Tonaks. I bought 2 brown cowboy style ones last week to try and reblock into a Raiders hats. Thick felt, but at least they are true brown fur felts. $12.99 each. I have 2 like yours that I bought last year, but I thought I'd lose too much brim on the block I've made. However- It looks like those hats will do anything! The felt is much nicer than the cowboy hats but first hand it is a bit green-ish looking. I'll try one on my block now, and if it works, I'll dye it, then block it again.

Yeah, that buckle is one of those ugly arse ones I got from Siegals of California during the great buckle search.
While it made for an awful bag strap buckle, it did make a great Pilgrim hat buckle
(although I really don't get the whole buckle on a hat thing... :-s )

I've only had the chance to check out one BCF so far and they had nothing so far.
So as time allows, I may look around. At the very least, they're fun to experiment with!

Wow, looks just like a Pilgrim hat. Good show! On getting it back, to its original size, no problem. I actually liked that Burlington(Tonak) felt. You could soak it in hot water and stretch it out to 3 feet tall. Easy to work with. To shrink it back down, just submerge it in almost boiling water, and reblock. The felt should shock and shrink when it hits the water, but can be stretched out again to fit the block. Fedora

Yeah, the thing about it is the felt was not that bad for the price. With a little pouncing you could have a decent hat for pennies. Not a bad deal. Fedora

I don't believe they ever were. It was a 'catch as catch can' at any particular BCF store. I found a couple examples at a Knoxville, TN store, but they were to small and were black. Like Fedora said, with a pouncing, they were a good 'second' hat. Pretty decent felt for the price. I don't know if they're floating around out there this year or not. I haven't been in a BCF since then...Regards. Michaelson

Hey, if anyone finds one of these in 7 1/4, could you let me know? I might be interested in one if they're that cheap.

Yes, yes, and yes and sizes are marked as small medium large.
Take that with a grain of salt however.
