I know everybody likes whip pics (or at least I do), so here's some a whip I just finished.

This is Texas Jones' new bullwhip that's being shipped to him today. He requested a 9 foot saddle tan bullwhip with an hour-glass-shaped handle, 8 inches long, and a tear-drop-shaped knob. The price was $270 plus shipping.

Beautiful!

That colour is quite amazing - such a deep, rich 'russet'.

Forgive my ignorance, but I assume its roo hide rather than cowhide?

Texas, you've got yourself a real jaw-dropper there, congrats!

I don't mean to insult your previous work or anything, but you've gotten really, really good at the whipmaking (like, I couldn't braid hair, man - that's a tricky craft). Looks great!

The whip is 12-plait using saddle tan kangaroo hide. I worked on it over the course of three days. I would say it took 10 hours or so, but I didn't really keep track.

The new gallery on my website is done and there's lots of eye candy. I've also put the IOAB bullwhip on my website. Check it out!

TexJ, we meet the first and third Sunday of each month. I won't be at tomorrow's practice but will hope to make it to the next one. We actually meet in Grand Prairie near I-30.

I remember you telling me about the Whip Enthusiast meetings in Grand Prarie in a previous post, and I couldn't make it due to work. I usually work weekends so it makes it hard to do. But, the next time I get a Sunday off, I will definately make it. I would love to meet you and everyone else and show off some of my products. Thanks for the invite!

No problem at all, Bruce. I got the whip today and it is amazing. I'm going to get out this weekend and give it a whirl. The pictures are accurate except it isn't as red in real life as it looks. I am going to treat it, are there any good leather treatments other than pecards?

Wow! Texas, you have a great looking whip there,
as to your question about leather dressings, there are many to be sure,
and you can even make you own if you wanted to.

I would say the best thing to do is to ask Adam (Winrich)what he likes and uses, he'd know best.

I just went out to a field by my place and gave this baby a workover. Okay, my forearm had the real workover - and the whip held up great! It popped like a firecracker. I also took out some frustrations on some tall dandylions, and I'm surprised at how my target skills haven't gone away. My last whip (the one that my dog ate for a midnight snack) was a 10 footer so this length takes a little getting used to. But for the most part, it's just like riding a bike. I'm also glad I didn't take off an ear with this thing!

The whip is still really stiff, but I plan on using it as much a possible and hopefully it will coil a little easier down the road. I also decided to give my whip holder the true test by adjusting it for a tight grip on the whip and ran around the place (thank God no one was watching me). The whip didn't slip at all and the snap held on like a champ.

Thanks for the update, Texas! Now I know that I made the right choice! Hopefully I will recieve by gunbelt and whip holder around the same time that my new "Texas Style" whip comes from Adam. I ordered the gunbelt and whip holder from some company called, I think, Texas Action Gear - you familiar with them??

You implied you already ordered the gunbelt and whip holder? I did not receive any orders from anyone with the name "Bruce." Perhaps you used another name? Let me know, that kind of worries me...
