Another masterpiece from... Fedora

Post by Scandinavia Jones »

While learning the art of reblocking proved to be quite fascinating, I simply did not have the guts to reblock my precious Swales-cut Herbert Johnson. It was in dire need of a reblock, though.
I decided to send it to our own reblocking wizard instead. The results arrived in the mail today, and I'm blown away... :D

Steve has done it again! He reshaped the crown, changed the ribbon and... liner... :o

Image

Yes, folks - Fedora graciously replaced my old, stained liner with an Adventurebilt one! Now I simply must get in line for one of his hats...

Having the chance to compare Fedora's professional reblock with my own dabblings, I put my mottled old Akubra Fed next to the HJ:

HJ to the left, Akubra to the right...

And in this pic it's the other way around...

Kudos to Steve for his excellent contributions to our community!

That looks beautiful; the new ribbon is much better, too.

How come the HJ sweatband still looks so new? The gold letters on my HJ sweatband have already started to fade off through wear. Were they applied using a different process with earlier hats, such as yours?

Anyway, congratulations on the best looking HJ I have seen on this forum to date - that last shot just looks brilliant - and high praise indeed for Fedora's impressive reblocking skills!

SJ,
Beautiful reblock. Fedora is an artisan extrodinaire! He did a fine job with that hat. Wear it well.

The guy I got the hat from had it mainly as a display piece. I believe he never actually wore the hat that much - hence the well-preserved gold print.

Ah, thanks SJ & thanks Noel for the ribbon info, I'll have to think about having my own HJ ribbon changed out now too, I think. :)

One more time:

A well blocked (and bashed) hat is like a beautiful woman - its all about the curves...in all the right places!

Cheers, mate.

Here's another pic of the little lid... better lighted - you can really see the Swales cut, too! :)

Very well done (as always - I may add)!

That ribbon looks excellent and the liner certainly adds a lot of style to the hat plus it IS screen accurate from a certain point of view.

Success :!:

You should do a trace of that nice brim cut and send out to people for a small fee. ;)

So... A new avatar lid coming up? 8)

Very Nice Scandi!! :D . Is that New Avatar with the HJ? If it is (which I suspect) it looks great!

Oh wow, I am envious. 8)

Although, SJ you may think me sick, but I liked the way your HJ looked in the first pic as well. For some reason I like the ToD crashing into the Himalayas scene... seems no one else does... but that brim has a lot of character to it.

Yeah, it's my dirty secret.
Hi, my name is Dan and I like the Plane sequence ToD fedora.
Welcome, Clinton.

I even subscribe to the idea that it was HF's hat from Raiders.
I think SJ's HJ looked a lot like it in the first pic...
Anyway, SJ, Fedora did a brilliant job.
It looks cool either way. 8)

Guys - I'm actually kinda fond of the Tri-Motor fedora too. And as you can see in the "before" pic, my lid was a spitting image.

I planned to leave it unblocked at first, but eventually, to look at that taper grew unbearable. It was impossible to bash it to any other shape but the Tri-Motor cone - and that's where the fun stopped.

Incidentally, this was discussed here.

:-$ SJ, we are not alone... Or are we? Or am I/you?

8)

How wide is that ribbon, btw.? I'm thinking I might alter the one on my Akubra some day for the fun of it.
