It's actually more to do with the lighting, insofar as making the bottom of the pocket look like it extends to the end of the jacket.

The case is, however, that the pockets are still quite large, even taking into account such tricks of the light.

It's got something to do with the lens and the angle -check out the width of the storm flap, it looks to be around 2" - but taking that & the lighting into account, the pockets look to be in keeping with the standard Wested size - maybe slightly bigger.
