Image This is a must see show. They test urban legends. Adam sometimes wears what looks like a worthy, only mildly tapered fur felt? , top center dented brown fedora. It has a ribbon in this pic, but I've only seen it ribbonless on the show. Anyone seen it and have an opinion what brand it is?

Yeah, ive only seen him with it on in the previews....Looks like a cheapo to me, super thin felt, and a taper like you said. Also it seems to have been forged with an "atomic flange" like the old millers.

Cheers

I was going to say something my self. I watch the show EVERY time it is on. I had at one time thought that he had a cheap wool hat, but decided that that was false, because on cheap hats the sweat band is sewn right into the hat with no extra attachment, and stiches cant be seen on the outside.Where on his hat you can see the attachment on the outside like it should be. He also dropped the hat one time and i could see what looked like a "old"stetson liner on the inside.

I thought this was brought up in another thread, but I can't be sure these days. I remember seeing the picture, though!

I e-mailed Adam Savage 3 months ago and told him he needed a better hat and gave him a link to Indygear. http://www.adamsavage.com/ Anyone want to ask him what brand it is?

I just emailed him. I'll post if I get a response.

On a side note, he appears to be a "Raiders" fan. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you can see where he and his friend taught themselves to braid and made their own whip. I also included information on how Indy Gear is a great source for whips and whip making.

Yeah, he says he wanted to make this whip since he saw Raiders, it's 12 feet +. He also made a Blade Runner blaster, another attractive Harrison Ford accessory. Image

I just received a reply from Adam Savage. Here it is:
Thanks for your letter. My hat has never had a band. I prefer it this way. It is an Australian Akubra, one of 4 I have owned over the years.
To be sure it has seen better days. That's also the way I like it. I beat the #### out of my stuff, and the Akubra's can take it and keep coming back. I'm wearing a new one this season (starts airing in the fall) that's the khaki "drover" model.

I love my Akubras and will continue to beat the living @#$% out of them as long as they are made.

Cheers,

Adam Savage
So there you have it, another testimonial to the strength of the Akubra hats. There was no response about the whips or Indygear, but who knows, maybe he is already a member or a lurker.

Don't let Renderking see this one!' I can feel an "I TOLD you so!" coming on!! :D Good for Adam! We all knew he had good taste...heck, he likes to blow things up while wearing an Akubra!....you HAVE to like a fellow like that! :D High regards. Michaelson

p.s. By the way, BDJ, hope you gave him the link to Hatsdirect so he can save money on his next Akubra purchase. Tell him to tell Ron we sent him.

See! I told you so!

Everyone whos' ever worn an Akubra says the same thing: They're rugged fedora's that are built to last while looking good a real long time.

I'm forever greatful to COW for pointing me in the direction of HatsDirect, and with this type of celeberty endorsing them, too, I'm sure they'll be around long enough for my boys and their kids to get fedora's of their own.

Adam Savage is my kind a guy after my own heart.

Good job Band Director. (People don't like ME, even if I just send 'em an e-mail.) - So..the hat in the pic is a prop because it has a ribbon? I suspected it was. It's darker, and has a much tighter front pinch, and is shorter. I guess the producers insisted on a more Indy looking hat for a publicity shot, same with Outback Jack. Getting a response from Adam Savage is @&%#$ cool!

Yeah, he'll probably be thinking of me when he beats the @#$% out of his new Akubra Drover. As a hardcore prop replicator, you'd think he might want a dead on Raiders hat. Maybe he does, but just doesn't want to wear it.

New season - the old hat is back and has developed HUGE taper. Adam wore his new Akubra also. It has those breather holes in the crown. He took the ribbon off this one too. It has no taper, and looks better than the old hat ever did - except for the top bash , which is like the whole top of the crown bashed in a round teardrop shape. They've noticed more at Lao Che's http://www.indygear.com/forum/viewtopic ... ythbusters I'm writing this as the show airs. Just saw the Achimedes Death Ray segment- It looks like Adam MAY have turned this new hat! His left brim flips up dramaticly behind his left ear, and I thought I glimpsed the flip down in the right brim....... O.K. , I just looked at a picture of a new Akubra Drover- The holes were 90 degrees in relation to the front and back- I thought I noticed the holes on Adams right were located rearward. Yeah, I think maybe he has given his hat the Raiders turn!

Saw a new episode tonight. I don't think Adam's hat is turned, but it has a kind of Raiders brim dip by his right eye. Maybe it is slightly off center, but I saw him tug the hat down holding this area of the brim a couple times. Image
