Hey IndianaMoto.
I order a ToD Goatskin in Authentic brown.
The order was placed about 5/6 weeks ago.

Hope that helps,
Ian

I exchanged some emails w/ Gerry today...seems they have a lot of 'short' orders from folks trying to get stuff by Halloween...at this point, the grid is full, so this may be causing extra complications getting stuff out.

I may be sporting my new Wested the day AFTER Halloween...ah, well, I'll still have a brand new Wested!

It seems there are a few people not getting their stuff within the 21 day period mark.
I got an email reply from Gerry telling me the pants I ordered to have in good time before the summit was out of stock and that they wouldn't have new ones until after the end of October. I only wish they had told me sooner, as in when I placed my order.

I think it started with ghosts and gouls, and indeed we still get a lot of those, but I think in the States it has become more of a fantasy dress-up day. Nowadays you're likely to find anything from videogame/tv/movie characters to pimps walking aorund on Halloween!

It used to be that you'd dress up as ghosts, etc., to decieve the spirits into thinking that you were one of them. That way, they wouldn't go after your soul. Jack o'lanterns were also carved and used to frighten off evil spirits during that one night of the year they would roam the earth.

In more recent times, Halloween has become a dress up day of sorts...

Yea, Halloween is much more open ended now then it used to be.

You'll find pretty much anything goes now, as long as it's some kind of costume. Doesn't have to be scary, although there are still a lot of those around.

And hey, when I was five years old I was Indy. I had my own little grail book and everything. :)

When I was five I was Evil Knievel, so pop-culture has been in Halloween here since at least the 60's & 70's. (I'm also reaching back to my older sisters' Halloween pics, not just dating myself.)

Some tips on what's up at Wested's right now over in this thread:
http://www.indygear.com/forum/viewtopic ... 521#119521

Turns out they've had a computer problem during an XP upgrade, AND there are a lot of 'short orders' for Halloween, AND they know the emails piling up, AND Peter and crew are barely touching the floor keeping up.

So EVERYTHING will be quiet for a bit...probably for a little while, anyway.

My emails haven't been replied to either in the last week, which is not normal for them, so I think they are DOWN emailwise right now.

P.S. Gater - You ordered a lamb the same day I ordered my lamb? How weird...

I have been receiving quick email responses (within 1 day) from wested regarding my order placed on 10/13. i was told the same day by Peter that he would dispatch my jacket in 28 days.

Hey, thanks, Harry. Good data point.

Which leather type was it (color & animal)?

10/16 or so is when the emails seemed to have cut off - I'm not sure since I don't have a reason to bug them everyday, and I wouldn't blame them if they stopped replying at that point anyway! You've gotten emails back since 10/16 or so?

Thanks - J

jacket

Post by indy1936 »

It was a raiders authentic lamb. I think i got my measurments correct. I have been having problems with my jackets being too short. I am 6'2". This will be the third wested i have owned since 1998.

Monday 10/18 at 8:05am Eastern Standard was the last response i received from Gerry at wested. I have gotten responses to my 3 emails within 1 day of sending them.

It's possible that's right around the time they had a computer problem.

It's also possible that despite my best intentions I'm experiencing advanced stages of 'pending Wested apprehension' so many other forum members experienced, and I'm about to go stark raving mad in anticipation!

Post by indy1936 »

i'm having the same and i have at least a month to go! :) i was sending quite a few emails back and forth with wested since the 13th trying to get details right. i should just let them do their job and send it out. hopefully i didn't annoy the folks at wested with those emails.

hehehe...YOU may not get any responses either, soon.

It's just possible that when the only questions left are "Are you on schedule? Are you shipping it tomorrow? Did you ship it today? Did you ship it yesterday?" It's just easier to spend the time getting the work done and THEN tell you it is done. There aren't many of them there...I don't doubt that if they camped on the email it would be hard to complete everything on time!

I think they're quite used to the obsessive compulsive nature of COW members constantly checking their order details, order status and anything else that can be checked, every two or three days.

It probably encourages them to turn the jackets out faster; to get people off their backs :)

I have some bad news regarding goat, and also Peter. Poor Peter, he's really having a time of it, especially now that they have gotten really busy.

I was just checking on my order, I took the advice here and just gave him a call - GREAT to talk to, extremely helpful. I didn't ask, but he got talking, and mentioned that - and I hope I understood him correctly - yes, they've had to reject the goat they got, but he IS still working hard to get suitable replacements. Bad news for those of you waiting for goat, I know, but don't worry, it may take more time, but Peter's not going to let you guys down.

To add insult to injury, sounds like they had some vandalism! Outside the shop, only, I believe, but they took out the windows in both his vehicles. So he really didn't have a ride. Poor Peter...this guys trying real hard to keep everything moving in the right direction. As soon as he told me, I thanked him for his time, apologized for wasting a few minutes of it, and let him get on with it - otherwise I might have gotten more info for ya'll.

Nonetheless the band plays on...

I got an email from Wested this morning stating that the Authentic brown Lambskin Raiders I ordered at the end of September was shipped this morning. I should be getting it some time early next week :D .

I did have a few questions that went unanswered from a previous email, but seeing how busy everything is I think it's quite possible they never even saw the email. Ah well, if any of the questions had been that important I would have phoned them in. I'm just happy my Wested is in the mail. The wait begin...

I last received an email from Wested on Oct. 18. HTey told me about the goat situation as Jerry mentioned above. From the email I believe that the new shipment of goat is due this week or next. Maybe all those waiting on goat Westeds should form a support group. I know that it's driving me crazy!

The problem with the goat has been the size of the hides received for the back panel. None that have arrived have been big enough for jackets, and so THAT's why the shipments have been rejected. Unless the hide is large enough, a jacket can't even be made. This per Peter via email this morning. Regards. Michaelson

I ordered a ToD original goatskin on Sept. 17. And I sent an email on Tuesday Oct.19 saying that it was approximately 21 business days since I've got the email confirmation that my jacket was on process... but Peter never replied to me.

After reading your mails, and since my jacket is goat, I think I will have to wait a little more. I just hope I'll receive a reply from Peter saying that my jacket is on its way before November... :?

Well I got an email from Gerry a couple days ago that my jacket should be sent out sometime this week, and I'll recieve another email with a tracking number when it does go out.

This is for a ToD dark lamb ordered on the 26th of September, so hopefully this can give everyone a point of reference.

I've heard five on average, but more recently even 10 to the west coast, but Peter was still hoping it could get here in 3 like their web page says...I guess that's what their carrier is still telling them, even though it often takes longer. Maybe the extra time is for customs, which they have no control over.

Don't worry Indiana Jarmyr. I ordered mine 50 days ago and I'm still waiting since Peter's last shipment of goat hides were to small to make the back of the jacket. I've been waiting long enough now, that I've gone into kind of a zen state of mind about it. It will come when it comes. Now if I could just stop composing haikus about my Wested I think I could achieve enlightenment.

Leather choice is key.
Depends on the weather. Lamb is great for every day wear, and it'll keep you about as warm as goat if you layer properly. The drawback to lamb is that it's prone to snags and tears, so it wouldn't hold up during any real adventures you may have. However, lamb is the easiest (so I've heard, and now I'm seeing) to distress for a very screen accurate look. Lamb will also keep you cool in warm weather.

Goat is much like lamb, although it's thicker and more durable. I've seen people in goatskin jackets (not Westeds, but others) scrape against a brick wall or trip -- they got a scrape or a bruise, but the jacket was fine. Since I don't have any other Wested than the lamb, I can't really speak intelligently about them.

EDIT: I agree with Michaelson, I didn't look at your location when I posted.

Update: Ordered an authentic brown lamb on 9/30, order processed 10/1. Order shipped 10/29, 28 days later. ( ooh...bad scary movie reference the day after halloween was NOT intentional...)

The slip from the 21-day plan was due to excessive number of 'must have by Halloween' orders...oh well, best laid plans - I'm still getting a Wested!

Today, 11/1 here, I had a note in my mailbox saying they tried to deliver it today - same international tracking number, so I know it's the jacket.

Do the math: Wested shipped THURSDAY, it shows up at my door MONDAY??? That's four days, including Sunday! Not counting Sunday, that's THREE DAYS - just like it says on their web page! Amazing! \:D/

Now I just got to get it out of my postal carrier's hands...hmm... :-k

Ah, the US Post played a fast one on me...the original slip said 'no signature required', which was odd since Wested said they request signature, but that meant I wouldn't have to take time off nor truck my butt to the PO...

...but today they left a new slip saying 'signature required', so now I'm going to have to hunt after it!

I think I'll go to the post office in Streets Of Cairo gear, whip and all...wouldn't they be surprised if I opened the box right there, put on the jacket, and walked out...

Nah, far too many things to do...let's see...take pic of unopened box, opened box, jacket in lights, jacket in daylight, etc. etc....

Pics as soon as I get it - promise. - J

Elementary my dear watson. Your powers of deduction are astute indeed.

i'm afraid to list it as i dont want to see the total $$.

lets just say that Todd, Adam, TAG, georgia-outfitters, WPG, MrsDeadlock, and J Crew all have heard from my credit card. Of course that's in addition to wested and hatsdirect.

doh!
