What passes for Indy Gear at the costume shop

Post by Rosenet »

Last week I was poking around a local costume shop and asked about an Indy costume. They actually had one already put together. It consisted of the most beat up, non-Indy leather jacket you could imagine (complete with zipper pockets on the chest), cowboy boots, a gangster style fedora, short sleeve safari shirt and a whip which was actually the most accurate part of the costume. They wanted $120 to rent the outfit for a week.

Man, this site has made me such a snob.

That's hysterical! I'm tempted to ask the local costume shop the same thing, just to see what results I get!

Can you imagine???

Harrison Ford: "Uh, Steve. Wearing this leather jacket in the jungle, and in the desert, isn't quite hot enough......can you get me some suede pants???"

I'd like to see one of us walk into that costume shop in full gear, ask to see the "Indy costume", glance at it, look down at our own nifty threads and say, "Nahh..." and walk proudly out the door! :P

And maybe even do the Harrison Ford Point(tm)(c) and say:

"You don't know what real gear is!"

Dern straight! I'm even wearing the gunbelt and whip, though I figured it would be best to leave the holster empty.

bink,
I work in an office in a bank. About how far do you think I would get with a holster on my belt!

Same here -- everything but the holster and gun. There's some... sensitive people where I work. I'm surprised I haven't gotten any guff about the whip yet.

I work at a credit union and I am wearing my full Indy gear minus the pistola of course. No problems here except the fact that everyone keeps calling me the Crocadile Hunter what is up with that? When did he wear a fedora, leather coat and carry a gun and a whip? I did however have one member complain that a strange man was in the branch with a whip and a gun but my employee explained that it was ok I work here. He assumed I was security after that.

I have a plastic snake sticking its head out of my bag and just for kicks since I did not bring a gun I have a plastic rat in the holster.

I'm in "stealth Indy" mode today. I asked around and no one else was going to wear a costume and I didn't want to stick out too much. So I'm wearing a fedora, leather jacket, dark khaki pants, tan button down, J Crew Deckers, brown web belt and have my trusty MK VII. I wear my fedora a couple of times amonth when it rains so its not terribly unusual, but with the rest of the gear people are definitely doing double takes. I can almost see them asking themselves if I'm in costume or not.

I figure I've got a couple of projects I want to get out the door today, so if I have to crack the whip, I really can!!! As far as the pistol, I work on a college campus, so the gun is a definite no-no. I am, however, seeing how far I can get away with wearing the holster.

I'm cracking up looking at that pic. You can tell the dude can't sit down in them or he'll tear them- he looks pretty uncomfortable the way he is standing there too. Let's hope he has already had kids.

Did Thursday, actually, since that's when our lunchtime Halloween party was. Dropped a thread on it in Lao Che's...please go read and mock me at will. ;)

Friday I got requests to bring the whip again, but...ah...that scared me, so I 'forgetfully' left it at home.

And apparently also making Canyon's eyes bug out...now that's tight, when they make someone else's eyes bulge.
