New US Wings Vintage Cowhide

Post by IndianaMoto »

Hello everyone. I got my US Wings Vintage Cowhide Indy jacket today, and am in the process of Pecarding it. When it arrived, it looked very light, and almost suede like. VERY soft and comfy. The Pecards makes it look NICE! I'm very impressed with the jacket. If any of you have questions about it, feel free to ask, cause I know there is a LOT posted about Westeds, but not a whole lot about US Wings. Thanks!

Congrats! I owned one of those, and I think it's one of the nicest that USWings has to offer. The leather is really soft with an instant "broken-in" feel to it. Enjoy your new jacket. :D

BTW, is the back panel a one piece, or is it a two piece with a seam down the middle of the back??

I'm curious about the seam down the middle too. I saw some Wings jackets with them and some without. Very strange.

Seam down the middle? Of where? Well, as far as this jacket goes, there's no seam down the middle of the back or anything. It's Pecarding up nice. Put on a coat yesterday, and another right now. It's really soaking it up good.

I do believe it is only the VIP version that have the seam vertically down
the center of the back panel of the Indy Wings jacket.

I do recall this subject coming up some time long ago, but either the post has disappeared or I have not yet learned to master the limited forum search feature. But I do know for sure that the VIP did not have one having owned one, and knowing others who have owned one at one time as well, if that helps you any Lemon. I’m sure Michaelson or IndyBlues can back me up on that. ;)

BTW: I would recommend the VIP highly if your looking for a slightly heavier fall/winter jacket.

Yes, the VIP I got from Rixter was a solid one piece back. Now there is another member here who has a lambskin USWings Indy, that has the 2 piece back. I think the cowhides are big enough not to have this seam, but the lamb and goat skins are smaller, and it's harder to get a nice one piece big enough for the back panel.

The VIP that I had go thru my hands awhile back, which was lambskin,
had the vertical seam down the back, so maybe it is only the lambskin
versions that have the seam, and not the cowhide versions. Or, perhaps
it all depends on the size of the jacket. Maybe up to a certain size and
there is no seam because they can't get big lambskins like Wested can.

Ah, the mysteries of life.

At any rate, I’m sure if you place a call to the highly competent customer service team at USWings they can give you the answer to that and any other question concerning their merchandise instantaneously. ...boy am I delusional today.

Just speaking from experience, my son's Lil' Indy jacket was supposed to be goatskin but ended up being VIP cowhide. My suspicions were confirmed by Indydawg. This thing is buttery soft, tough as nails, and distresses well. My point is really that there's no vertical seam down the back.

Well, there shouldn't be a vertical seam down the back on an Indy jacket. I can't undertand why they would need to do that when Wested, for example, manage to make all leather-types jackets without a vertical seam?

The only exception I could think of would be the case where someopne in a larger back size really wanted a smaller skin type (goat for example) and there just wasn't a piece of leather big enough to make the solid back panel.

Peter mentioned last week that they struggle sometimes in finding big enough hides for the larger sizes, but to their credit they'll wait 'till a big enough piece comes in or advise a different hide type so the original design isn't compromised.

Anyhow, it sounds as if you have a very fine jacket! Congrats!

Ahem...pictures please!
