New fedora enthusiast here. Hi.
Hello all,
After much trepidation, I was finally able to join you all here on COW Forums. I've been reading them for quite awhile, and when I finally got my cox.net address, I signed up. I'd just like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone who posts here. I love all things Indy, especially his Fedora.
I recently upgraded from my old Disneyland replica to a Peters Bros. Fedora. I got it on eBay for 100$, and let me tell you, it was a steal at that price. I'm not rich, see . I am however, a student. Heh. Maybe one of these days I will be able to afford a Herbie or maybe even one of Fedora's hats. Anyways, thanks for reading and hello!

I would have gotten an Akubra, and still want to pick one up one of these days. It's just that Akubras usually come open crowned, and I've never shaped and bashed a hat before, and thusly, have no idea how to do it.
Actually, at the same time I bought the Peters Bros. Fedora on eBay, I had the opportunity to bid on a brand new [open crowned] Akubra Fed. too (straight from 'The Hattery'), but my lack of expertise in the area of shaping led me to go with Peters Bros. Fedora., because it came pre-shaped.
I used to paint miniatures for a board game for extra money, but for some reason, I still don't trust the steadiness of my own hands to shape a fedora. I'm petrified that I will do it wrong and mess the whole thing up, and really, I can only afford to try it once.

Thanks for the warm welcome It's appreciated.
I'm sure it *is* easy, no doubt, it's just that I've never done it before, and thusly may feel a little weird trying it on my own for the first time. I'm sure any way I do it is going to look too funny to me, like I did it wrong.
Well, one of these days I'll get the hat and try it with some online directions. Shaping it the way I want it would be an adventure in and of itself!
In any event, thanks.

Strider, someone here has a movie online of someone shaping a hat (I have a good memory, it's just short, so I don't remember who's video it was). That video just made all the typed info here click for me and I sorta dived right in reshaping my new fed after I saw it. And I think I did a good job.
oh, and welcome aboard.
