New fedora enthusiast here. Hi.

Post by Strider »

Hello all,

After much trepidation, I was finally able to join you all here on COW Forums. I've been reading them for quite awhile, and when I finally got my cox.net address, I signed up. I'd just like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone who posts here. I love all things Indy, especially his Fedora.

I recently upgraded from my old Disneyland replica to a Peters Bros. Fedora. :D I got it on eBay for 100$, and let me tell you, it was a steal at that price. I'm not rich, see  . I am however, a student. Heh. Maybe one of these days I will be able to afford a Herbie or maybe even one of Fedora's hats. Anyways, thanks for reading and hello!

lol, thanks fellas.

Say, do any of you guys know how to get in touch with Lee Keppler? I keep e-mailing him asking for details on how to order one of his awesome looking Fedoras, but to no avail...I never get a reply. How does one get in touch with the man to pick up a lid?

The best way to get in touch with Lee is by phone - though I don't have his number. Someone is bound to chime in with it. Regards.

#-o You're right Bink. Here Strider, I think you 'dropped' this. 8)

Oh, I didn't know he lived in San Diego. So do I, coincidentally!

That ought to make things much easier, I could just drive somewhere and pick it up!

Man, you're not kidding -- I could've made a mortgage payment (or three) with the money I've spent on gear. That is, if I had mortgage payments.

Welcome to COW, Strider!

Welcome to the club, Strider! :D

You'll want to look into posting pics, because we love to see everyone else's hats! :D

The Peters Bros. hat is a good choice, but you would not have made an error had you chosen an Akubra Fed, either!

I would have gotten an Akubra, and still want to pick one up one of these days. It's just that Akubras usually come open crowned, and I've never shaped and bashed a hat before, and thusly, have no idea how to do it.

Actually, at the same time I bought the Peters Bros. Fedora on eBay, I had the opportunity to bid on a brand new [open crowned] Akubra Fed. too (straight from 'The Hattery'), but my lack of expertise in the area of shaping led me to go with Peters Bros. Fedora., because it came pre-shaped.

I used to paint miniatures for a board game for extra money, but for some reason, I still don't trust the steadiness of my own hands to shape a fedora. I'm petrified that I will do it wrong and mess the whole thing up, and really, I can only afford to try it once.

Hi Strider, welcome aboard!
I'm sure you'd be able to get a good bash on a fedora.
Enjoy the fun.

Welcome aboard. Bashing the akubra is a piece of cake.
Now, staying satisfied with your bash... well that's another story...

Thanks for the warm welcome :) It's appreciated. :D

I'm sure it *is* easy, no doubt, it's just that I've never done it before, and thusly may feel a little weird trying it on my own for the first time. I'm sure any way I do it is going to look too funny to me, like I did it wrong.

Well, one of these days I'll get the hat and try it with some online directions. Shaping it the way I want it would be an adventure in and of itself!

In any event, thanks.

Strider, someone here has a movie online of someone shaping a hat (I have a good memory, it's just short, so I don't remember who's video it was). That video just made all the typed info here click for me and I sorta dived right in reshaping my new fed after I saw it. And I think I did a good job.

oh, and welcome aboard.

Y'like that Warner Brothers t-shirt, do ya? ;) That pic was taken 25 feet under the TransCanada Highway, incidentally... with no over or underpasses for several miles around.

Now back to our thread, already in progress...
