Westchester Gloves -- At Home Depot

Post by HJJr »

I've found a pair of deerskin gloves in what I believe to be a screen accurate pattern. The gloves are made by Westchester. I bought them at a local feed and seed store that is not a chain for $12 US.

These gloves are in the same pair. I've put them out in the sun with the back facing up during daylight hours for 8 or 10 days now. You can see how much yellow has bleached out looking at the palm. I photographed them outside in partial sunlight/shade/cloud cover, with no flash and on a white sheet of printer paper and concrete for reference.

Once I sun-bleach the palms and apply some dirt and grease they'll be close and comfortable.

The best non-Wells Lamont I ever purchased was a couple of pairs at a dollar store in Ohio. The only markings they had was 'Made in China', and were dead on to the original WG's, so they had to have 'ripped off' the design. Those things wore like iron, and I don't think they cost me more than a couple dollars. Never found another pair like them. Wish I had gone back and bought a case of them when I had the chance. :? I'm with you, Rob. You don't have to buy the name to get the quality in all cases. Regards. Michaelson

Cheap is good. Although, this is one hobby where I tend to spend more for accuracy.

Yeah, I have to admit, until someone definitively nails THE glove, I'm okay w/ just anything close. Even the Stanley Deerskin glove is as close as this (after you trim off the little 'Stanley' label).

Not a jab at this glove, mind you. Point is there's a lot of 'almost' gloves that are 'close enough' for most - especially considering a lot of people don't even seem to care about the glove since it was only in half(most?) of Raiders. But there can be only one...and I'll wait for the agent to make his report (Agent5, that is).

Yer kiddin' me! I just bought a pair of those just because it was getting too cold for my $1 wool gloves and you're telling me the freakin' sun can bleach them white?! This is good new indeed!

I had a pair of white Roper gloves* for stormdraining (you know, cold & rusty rung ladders and such), but my former roommate stole 'em from me.

*see some of the pix of my mine trip n the scrapbook section.

Don't misunderstand. I don't have an emotional investment in advocating this glove as "the glove". I was just trying to point out an option that is relatively available. Outside of COW members, no one else could even remember that Indy had gloves. Therefore gloves get a lot of leeway from me.

You and I have a few degrees of latitude and UV between our positions, but sunlight does bleach. Try the back window of your car.

This is my pair of Stanley goatskin gloves from Home Depot which I dyed brown. Not the most screen-accruate, but they do the trick. I would rather wear these with my Wested rather than an oily, stained, distressed pair of gloves. I know I could make these look screen-accurate if I hadn't stained them so dark and added dark brown/black spots. Perhaps I should add the letters 'LARGE' to the cuff.

And yes, the sun will bleach out leather pretty good after awhile. Once I decided to follow someone's advice on getting my MKVII lighter and put it in the sun for about a week. It sure did lighten the bag...and the portion of the strap that was exposed. I had to replace the strap, and filed the occurance in the "live and learn" tab.

OMG! Just when you think this hobby can't be pushed any further....LOL!

Next time I see on of you guys at a Comic Con, I am going to be looking for that one thing.

Seriously, I think we know more about gloves from this study than anyone at Wells & Lamont or Midwest.

Keep up the good work.

The Home Depot near me has the same make of glove, in both the yellow pair, AND a pair of lighter tan color, that looks like your sun dyed pic above.

Ah, I should apologize, I couldn't quite get the tone of that post right, but it was late, so I let it go. My fault, sorry if I sounded judgemental.

I should have started it with THANK YOU, because I did appreciate you posting these, and I may pick them up if I can't get 'the glove' someday. Didn't think you were pushing it as 'the', and I'm not a glove scholar either. For me, that's a good glove too, so I agree with you, that would work for me. Insert smiley: ->

Thanks again, and sorry to dance so ungainly. ;)
