Question about waist size needed for Wested order

I just got word from Jerry that my TOD Lambskin will be shipped in ten days, and I had a concern.

When I inputed the measurements, I was a size 36 waist and entered it as such. Now, as I have lost a little weight around the waist, I am a 34. Will this cause any problems with the fit of my jacket?

I doubt it. Wested tailors the jacket to a "tight" or well-tailored European fit. I think you'll be pleased with the extra room. Mine fits me perfectly, so it keeps me disciplined as not to gain any weight because there's not much room for expansion. In retrospect, I may have requested a little more room, though well-fitted is how they were in the films -Raiders most of all.

Like others have expressed, I wouldn’t worry much about that relatively small variation in the waist at all. I fluctuate between a 36 and 34 myself and most often would fall in between for that perfect fit (I’ve always wondered why it is that they never seem to make jeans in a 35 waist, but that’s another matter) but the waist on this type of jacket doesn’t bother me near as much as it would if my shoulders or chest suddenly decreased or increased in size. I believe only then would you really need to express some concern. Those would be the worst areas that I’d tend to notice the most in my opinion - at least for me.

I don't think you should worry.

For the most part, the Wested follow a standard pattern. I believe they only need to do something different when your waist is sort of out of whack from the 'standard' waist size for your jacket size.

I.e., I'm a 44R, but significantly less than the industry standard 38 waist for a 44R. (Folks, note I attribute those numbers to 'the industry' - I didn't pick those numbers.)

So Gerry just asked that I note that since they may taper the jacket differently. But only cause I was off by four inches - a 34.

You've only lost a couple inches, so the jacket shouldn't be baggy - just comfortable, and be more forgiving about the days you wear something under it, or have something clipped on your belt, etc.

And yes, it's too late to change it without them possibly going back to stage one and recutting the pieces for more of a taper - or at least remarking it and tucking the extra within (do they do that, or just cut?), but it would probably be such a minor change that I don't think it's worth it.

Just consider that if 36 was your waist size before, it could be again. When I was superfit a few years back I went from my 'comfortable' 34 down to a 30/31 - the old jeans fit again! But I got a couple kids, rediscovered Ben & Jerry's, and boom - I'm back to 34 and the 'more recent' jeans fit again.
