Help with posting a cool 1930s ad

Post by Flash Gordon »

I have two different Sears ads from 1936 advertising Indy-like leather jackets. And the models are wearing fedoras!

I thought you'd like to see them, but, since I'm about as proficient as Sallah in running a computer, could I e-mail them to someone who knows how to post them here?

PM w/ email address sent. I can turn em around pretty quick, but hopefully they'll still be viewable once I squidge em down to 500x500 max.

I can't post an offsite link, though, but if someone else can please do that and we can get the unmittered images linked.

Flash, you didn't find them somewhere online, did you? If you did, just put the url in a post!

Personally,
I like the "Pig Grained." I think that would be a good look for me. I would look kind of like a football.

Just make sure they don't try to punt you, Hemingway.

Those jackets are cool... I wonder if Peter could make a custom jacket based on these pics? =P~

I've never seen a pig with those kind of divots before. Quite a broad spectrum in the pricing there though. From $2.39 to $7.89. To be honest, I kinda prefer the $2.39 myself...

Did you notice that the horsehide jacket had a humidor rubber lined pocket to keep your smokes and matches fresh and dry? Not a necessary feature for a nonsmoker like me.

O, I dunno, Buff; it's always good to have a dry pocket for maps, matches, and any sort of artifact you may hazard across.

Well, if you'd stop wearing that white aviatar's scarf and that bright white patent leather belt with your pigskin jacket, I'd stop kicking you thinking you were said favorite kicking device.

At those prices, I'd buy them all, and stock the closet. Oh, at those prices w/ current salary, that is. Back then I too would have settled for the $2.39 jacket, so I could save up for the $10 hat from HJ...or the $12 Optimo! Ah, those w/ 'two buck mo' buy Optimo...

One question about the price of the jackets though. Is the price quoted in these ads equal to the 145£ you have to pay for a wested jacket, or are they more expensive today?

Aero Leather in Scotland makes copies of most of these jackets. They
make a Cossak that is exactly like the pictures, right down to the knit
cuffs inside the leather sleeve ends and buckle side straps.

My Aero Californian is just like the Cossak, only it has straps on the
sleeves instead of the button. It has the same side adjusters, collar,
pockets and halfbelt back panels.

You can get a repro of these jackets if you want one. Although, your
not gonna pay the 8 bucks for it now...

Click on the second of the two links above and view the first horsehide offered on the page...then, check the link below. Look alot alike! Prices are a bit different, but the overall stylings havn't changed that much. W>

My personal choice is the one on the right in the first ad. I'd actually wear that jacket. Wish that cut was still being made today. I'd even like it in a simple cotton to wear in the summer.

Check the Aero website. They make a jacket like this. Its called a
Cossak. It comes in a few different leathers. Its a halfbelt design, with
two slash pockets, the extra collar tab, the side adjusters, and halfbelt
in back.

If you asked them, they could probably make one out of cotton for
you. They are VERY good with customer requests, just like Peter and
Wested.

Aero's specialty is jackets, pants, and items from the 30's 40's and
50's. They make alot of cool products from various leathers and cotton.

They even make a jacket called the Ricky. Its the same type of jacket
that Desi Arnez wore on I Love Lucy. I guess thats why they call it a
Ricky. They make it out of all cotton, or wool, or half wool and half
leather.

If you live in the United States, then before you order a jacket, you
should talk to Mark Moye. He is their US rep, and you can find his
e-mail address thru e-bay. If you go to e-bay, and put this in
there search AERO JACKET you will find Mark.

Once you get all the info you need on a jacket thru the actual AERO site,
you can contact Mark, and he will order the jacket for you using your specs.

The great part about using Mark, is he pays all the customs fees, and any
extra shipping costs to get the jacket from Scotland. It can save you
about 70 bucks on a jacket. Plus, he is a great guy to deal with.

He is also a memeber of the Vintage Leather Jackets II forum that I am also
a memeber of. On this site, we talk about WWII jackets and items just
like we talk about Indy gear on this site. Mark has ordered just about
every repro WWII jacket for the guys here in the US from AERO, and
those guys are WAY more picky about things than we are!!
