Letap treatment on Wested

Post by indy1936 »

Has anyone ever used Letap for treating their lambskins? I received a complimentary can of this from Peter back in 99. It was a foam rather than grease/oil like pecards. How does it compare to pecards? I wonder if Peter still carries this product?

I believe he does, because people have mentioned receiving it in the last few months.

The only snag, I believe, is that if you're not in the UK, it's a ##### to import, being in a pressurised can...

i just checked the old posts. thanks. the original can i received was included with one of my jackets in 98. did that allow it to sneak through or have the rules become more stringent in recent years.

I have no idea. Michaelson would know because he adores the stuff, but can't get it, being in the US.

You mention grease/oil. It's probably flamable, which is a big no-no on planes, which is why it doesn't travel far.

In Canada, I couldn't even order a can of spray paint from the states because the post office refused it.

I used an entire can on my US Wings lambskin G-2

It's great stuff. Soaks right in with almost no drying time for the jacket. There's also a Letap spray that is like the Scotchguard for leather that you can use on distressed leather jackets. I had some of each of these at one time, but gave them to other fans, as I'm pretty strictly a Pecards user myself.

But that Letap foam is GOOD stuff! Looks like hair mousse out of the can, but rubs right in and soaks up almost immediately.

Too bad we have such a hard time getting it in over here-but in a box with a Wested jacket, it might be ok?....Just a thought.

Later!

Yep, I LOVE that stuff. Found a brand new can on the shelf of my closet a couple of weeks ago that I didn't know I had shoved back, and you would have thought I had found the mother lode! I REALLY wish we had a supplier Stateside, but there's none here, and with it being in a pressurized can, there's no plans on attempting to enter our market. Regards. Michaelson

Oh man, I was given a can of that stuff by Jerry. In the plane going home, I was able to get it onboard for the first leg of the trip- but I had to change planes in Tokyo where they took it from me saying I wasn't allowed it onboard...

Make good use of it, indy1936!

thanks neolithic :)

i've had this can for about 6 years. it still seems to be good but i've had to make it last. i think there is enough left for at least one more jacket!

This sounds a lot like the leather conditioner I use to use on my old Frye boots...uh...back in the 80's. Comes out like foam, soaks IMMEDIATELY in...

...and believe it or not, you could beat that boot on the sharp corner of a shelf and not hurt it once that stuff was soaked in.

And you can't get that stuff anymore? Argh. That stuff was magical. Kept my boots young for years...I actually had those so long I walked through the soles, after walking through the heels many, many times...still got em, they uppers still look almost new. TWENTY YEARS.

i am willing to bet that if you order a jacket or something else from peter than he could sneak in a can of the letap and it would get through to the US. i wonder if i should ask for one with my jacket. but it would stink if the jacket didnt get through cuz of the can

Good stuff, I got it when I recieved my jacket....the dude I bought it from (can't remember his COW name, but he's an archaeologist in England) just put in in the box with the jacket, and made sure to put a warning on the box....turned out fine...I consider myself lucky, and still got some :D

Regards, Daryl.

I have travelled with it from the UK to the US before. As long as its in your cargo hold luggage I dont see you will ahve a problem... of course I can see how having to fly over to the UK just to pick it up could be a bit of an inconvencince.
