Belloq's Panama
What's the low down on this lid?
I don't know anything about it.
I think I like it more than Indy's. Don't hate me though.

YOU SON OF A @%&*&#@@!!!!!   I guess we can't hate a guy for coming to COW and loving Belloq's clothes more than Indy, though I strongly disagree with your decision I don't know anything about the hat either, but I never get the one liner joke things around here, and I figured this was my chance Welcome to the forum
High Regards,
Daryl.

Okay, I dug around w/ the search engine (see 'Search' at the top of your page), and while I didn't nail the hat type and source, I figured out this much:
Dakota Ellison has one. If you're stuck, I'd PM him and ask him to take a peek at this thread.
Minnesota Jones has one, and refers to it as "my Montecristi (Belloq style) panama ". Ditto w/ him, he's also a mod, so he'll probably see this thread soon.
And Indy Magnoli showed off some hats in an older thread, and one had those colors, but was more of an Indy style...so he *might* or *might not* have some info. He too is a staff member here, so he'll probably hit this soon.
Hope that helps at all.
Oh, and welcome to COW! KB's response was right in line w/ our typical humor here, take everybody w/ a grain of salt! You had me going, KB!

This might come across as heresy here, but I'm experimenting w/ a cheaper hat...certainly a Dorfman-Pacific 551, even unmodified w/ the standard shaping and (arf) tear-drop bash, is good enough for Halloween.
But don't pay any more than $30 bucks for it! You'll see it out there for $50 and higher, but DON'T. The 554 is an actual fur version, and you'll see that for $100 and more, but don't pay more than $50 for it. You can find it for that. (If you are going to spend $100 or more, read below, I've got a hint for you.)
But I'm shaping a 551 based on a lot of the GREAT advice on this board to see if it's passable enough until I figure out where in the yard I buried all those old silver dollars... ...if it comes out passable, I plan to post pics and explain 'the way' for those of us Indy-On-A Budgets...
I too have a bit of issue w/ a couple hundred bucks for a hat, but let me at least help you calibrate a bit. See that guy that posted earlier - Fedora? He'll be opening an online hat store soon, and his work so far (BEFORE the shop) looks like some of the best Indy-based stuff around. So his quality will be HIGH, but his prices, although still starting over $200, look like the best bargain for the high quality.
(Hope I'm not embarrassing you, Fed, just calling it like I see it. )

EDIT: But as I understand it, he'll only have brown to begin with. If you are ONLY interested in a Belloq, he may not be making those.

Yes, I got a Monticristi from Optimo in a "Belloq" style. It's a wonderful summer lid. It's quickly becoming the favorite of all my hats (including the Indy fedoras too). Here's a couple pics of it...

Or just do quick changes upstairs, and keep walking around looking for the other guy all night...jts1031 wrote:How about a combination of Belloq and Indy for All Hallowed Evening? Get the Belloq hat, and suit, and shoes, then put a MK VII bag over it and a whip on your belt. It would be....interesting...Indiana Jerry wrote:That IS a beautiful hat, MN...hmm...maybe *I* can be the bad guy, too...
