I prefer the slightly longer(1 inch)TOD Wested jacket. It's not a huge difference, but the shorter cut of the Raiders is, dare I say,....
a dated look.

Well I think the mjority of people here are Raiders fans with Last Crusade a close second. Is there anything particular you are looking for in a jacket yourself (thickness, need to withstand particular weather/environmental conditions, you want to distress it, etc?). Otherwise just go with the one you like the look of the best and can see yourself wearing.

I personally suggest the Wested Raiders, like Ken said, it's a dated look, and there's no jacket quite like it IMHO. :junior: -IJ

That's such a loaded question. Right now you've just asked the 1000 members of COW to vote on their favorite, without any parameters.

Since it sounds like you are looking for help picking your own, give us something to start with.

What kind of climate are you in?
Plan to wear it everyday, or just occasionally, or just for winter...?
Do you already kinda LIKE some particular look, like the beatup distressed LC look, or more of a pristine brand-new jacket?

If you are just collecting opinions, I just ordered an authentic brown lamb LC w/ a Raiders collar, but it was driven by my weather situation and my desire to wear it often. Here's a thread on that, if it helps:

I guess you tend to recommend your favorite, so I went with the Temple. This is mainly because it is a bit longer and I really like what the jacket looks like in the movie. As it turned out I needed it to be an extra 2 inches on top of that, so I guess I could have gone with a Raiders jacket enlongated to the same specs just the same. I'm not sure there is so much of a difference between the two other than the length. Maybe the yoke seam was placed higher on the Raiders version, and is now default from Wested? Not sure... Other than that, you can pick little features from each jacket if you want to just to get it the way you like it. Crusade collar being bigger, press studs on the storm flap and so on.

It will be interesting to ask Peter if there are any more differences to the patterns of each jacket other than these obvious ones.

Other than that, if you live in a cold and humid environment and want a jacket that you can throw most things at I recommend goat. On the other hand, the horse also seams great and is a bit softer than the goat from what I've heard. I think the best way to go would be to discuss it with Peter and see what he has to say about what you want from your jacket.

Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming jacket. ;)

I concur with the two swedish fellows. Temple of Doom. It's my favorite movie. If nothing else, get the jacket from your favorite of the three :D

I agree with Swindiana, that there isn't relly any difference in the 3 jackets you can order from, as far as pocket placement and size, patterns, seam variances, etc. Peter calls all 3 jackets the "Raiders Jacket", and then adds a few subtle differences, that were inherent to that particular movie.
Such as, the Tod is the same as the Raiders, except for 1" added to the body length, and the LC is the same length as Raiders, but has buttons on the storm flap, a slightly larger collar, and a larger inside pocket to accomadate fitting a grail diary into.
Other than that, you can add just about any option you want to any of the 3 jackets.
You can order a Raiders jacket, but ask for all the attributes of the TOD and LC jackets added to it. So basically, like Burger King, you can have it your way, when you buy a Wested.
Can't ask for anything more.

TOD "cause I ride a scooter!

Post by RIKRAK »

I like the slightly longer cut as it is often my "Scooter" jacket. Not being a true "Gear-Head" I sort of wish I had requested an "American" zipper, why the British do things on the funny side of the road I'll never understand. Also since I ride often I also wish I had Peter put in some hidden in the sleeve cuffs to cut down on wind chill. My vote TOD and get the coat n' goat!!!!!

Hi all.

What I am looking for is one of the three jackets; I am only gonna be purchasing one of the three.

What I would like to know is if anyone has all three, and if so which one do you get the most from. I.E Would it be, let say a Raiders because you can wear it with anythingb and it looks great (That was completely made up and just an example) If you have not got all three Wested, then why did you pick the that you have?

What alterations do I need to ask for at Peter's?
What are these X pocket thingies?

As you can tell; I know zilch about a good Wested Indy jacket.
I just need to know my bits before I go to Peter's and say.........I want this one.

If any of you Jonses can help me I would be most greatful.

Your pal, Doeindy.

Actually, you don't need to ask for anything other than your measurements. However, if you want a few things altered to your specs, here is an example list of what you could do in case you want it:

Temple jacket, for instance.
X-box pattern sidestraps, good for durability
Elastics between action pleats, for keeping them closed
Rectangular rings for sidestraps, instead of D-rings for a non-slipping result if you pick the lamb, also the screen accurate alternative according to many
1 inch added to the front, in case you think you will have problems with ride-up
Tapered sleeves, some people think that the cuffs are rather big, it will also make the jacket look a little slimmer in the fit imo.
Extra inside pocket, diary size (Sooner or later all Gearheads will try and shove a book down that hatch according to Peter.) :)
Zippered inside pocket, keeps things from falling out if standing on your head a lot
Press studs on storm flaps, LC style in case you like that feature
Double gussets (The Mick Jagger lips), increased movability when flapping like a bird or picking apples a lot
Extra room for a sweater VS. 80's slim fit

I've probably forgotten just as many things as I've listed, but these are just examples of what one could consider.
Browse the old threads, have a look around and see what you would like and what you wouldn't. It's all in your hands now.

Good luck!

Swindiana
